Willie Rylett, mate on sloop Annie K. Tiller, one ot the oyster boats of \V. N. McAngo & Co., was to-ilay drowned in Nanseniond river, near Holiday's Point. The sloop was endeavoring to ouproacli the side or an anchored oyster skiff and in the attempt Rylett, who was standing near the rail, fell overboard between the two crafts, but not SUtllcietltly near for him to grasp either. The Tiller was under headway and before assistance could be rendered the tnan who was Struggling with the waves had suc? cumbed and sunk. The crew made a| determined but unsuccessful attempt to save him. Mr. McAngo was notlllod of the fatality and immediately left for the scene to drag the river for his body, which had not been recovered when tills report closed. THE COUNTY POOH.?Mr. A. T. Holland, superintendent of the Upper Parish poorhouso, was in town to-day. nnd In conversation said that there are now only ten pauper Inmates. The number of actual inmates In the alms house Is materially lessened by reason of the fact that a number of the Indig? ent class are furnished with monthly allowances at their respective houses. This 'method, says the superintendent, while It causes a iltmunitlon In the ranks at the almshuuso, where their support would cost the county more thou the monthly allowances tendered, causes applications for aid from many citizens whose pride would forbid their entering a poor house and thereby more expensive in the end. SUPERVISORS' POSTPONED MEETING.?The County Hoard of Su? pervisors had their postponed October 4 meeting to-day in the Courthouse. Pres -ent: K. D. Brinkloy, 1. W. Everett and J. F. Eley. In the absence of the chair? man. Walter Jordan, of Sleepy Hole district, Mr. Urinkley occupied the chair. The board adjourned about 4 o'clock till the special meeting. INAUGURATING A CANVASS.? Hon. J. E. Booker, candidate for the House, to-day began his canvass for the campaign in Whaleyvlllo. Al? though he lias no opposition he will visit various parts of tho county with the view of arousing the party to the situation, and dispelling any apathy ?which may exist in the ranks. It is desired that there be a respectable vote polled in this county, as Colonel R. E. Boykln for the Senate has an active opponent in the person of Mr. John R. Doles, the Fusionist candidate, who was named at the Windsor conference, and whoso friends are said to be mak? ing a still hunt in ids interest. There is a.safe Democratic majority in the ' district, and the only question is to get the voters to the polls. The revival is continuing at the Bap? tist Church, with good prospects.
