When we reached the seenco of Mons.
Bloshin's exploit, about a mile below the
Falls, yesterday afternoon, at half past three
o'clock, an iininciiso crowd nf people thronged
the banks of tlie river on cither side, lor
some distance abovo and below the cablo.
Tho end on the American Rido was in an en
closure known as White's 1'lensure li rounds,
which arc much frequented on account of
the admirable points for viowingthe tulls on
the one hand and tho Suspension llridge
and river scenery on tho other. A thousand
or nioro people paid admission to the grounds,
which would alioril gooa stnna points to
witness the feat for many thousands, and
Mons. Blondin hero gave ono of his tight
rone ncrfonnanccs, prior to undertaking tho
seeminnlv hazardous passage. A band of
music enlivened the Bcene and aided in dis-
sipatine tho feeling of terror and owe Willi
Winch tne undertaking was surrounueu.
On tho Cauuila slioro an cnclosuro was
formed between the road, which at this point
runs Blong the precipice n couple of rods
from the brink, within which the end of the
cablu was secured. All around wcro sing
ings, erected to enablo people to get a good
view of the alfair, but the entrance charges
wore so extortionate that few availed them
selves of tho facilities provided. In the im
mediate vicinity wcro booths for dispensing
edibles and imbibables, with a circus side
nhow or two. but were not very extensively
natronized. the cablcistic attractions
Mons. Blondin overpowering the ordinary
curiosity of a promiscuous crowd, which
was not neatly so largo as we anticipated,
the total number of siiectators on both banks
not exceeding ten thousand. While the vast
audience, ranged round the grandest ampi
theatro man evor exhibited his puney skill
and courage in, were waiting, the excitement
orowine momentarily more intense.'Ulondin
was capering before an audience in the grove
on White's Pleasure Grounds. Sporting
men liettod on the result of his performance,
the odds boine in his favor. The bands
music in attendance played as if they were
trying to blow their brains out, and the
roughs had a muss or two by way of amuse
ment, to doss of the time.
The cable is two inches in diameter, and
nearly six in circumference. It was firmly
anchored at each end, and was guyed by
smaller ropes stretching at regular intervals
on both sides to the shores, with Rtny ropes
running perpendicularly to the water's edge
from the cable, and firmly fastened to rocks.
Tim o-iivs were made fast to trees on tho
hank, and from an inequality in fastening,
drew the cablo slightly f rom a straight line.
The depression of tho cable at tho centre
frmn the fnstenines on shore was about sev
enty-live feet, though still a hundred feet
abovo the water. The banks are not over
two hundred feet in hcicht aliove the river
ut the brink of the perpendicular part, the
ground gradually rising, ou both shores,
about fifty feet higher. The distance across
is over one-fifth of a mile. All who have
been to tho Falls, will readily understand
from our brief description ol the situation,
the peculiar and exciting nature of tho ex
ploit. While waitine for Blondin, the little
steamer Maid of the Mist, with numerous
passengers, passed down beneath the cable
l.or ul.Arf.on the Amcricau shoro. At pre
cisely five o'clock, Mons. Blondin appeared
at the cable, on tho American side. From
the nnnosito shore he looked liko a chiiu

ns an athlutfl. His balance pole weighs just
fio-tv-nvft notlnds. Makine his bow to
crowd with tiallic politeness, amid a salvo
of hurrahs and bursts of music, he stepped
firmly upon t' e cablo, and began to descend
in inclination, raoidlv at times, then slowly,
until about two hundred feot out, when
ant lnwn. lav at full length upon tlie rope
stood upon one foot, and performed olher
tricks of the rope dancer.
The rope betrayed his presence upon n
