the enlargement of the penitentiary. The

various amendments, waa ordored to be en
grossed.
A Bankrupt Bill Introduced.
The diapatohe from Washington inform
ua that Mr. Toombs, of the Henate, has in
troduced bill to establish a uniform law on
the subject of banki uptry throughout the
United States. We believe that such a law
would do more to relieve the financial pres
sure of the time, than ny tiling vise tha(
oould he done. We hope that all who arc
in favor of eucb a law, will now siir them
selves, and let our Senutore and membora of
the House of Representatives know tlmt w
are in luvor of such a ltiw. This rony be
done by petition, or direct correspondence
with our Senators and Representatives
The political aomplexion of the present
Senate and House of Representatives, is
mure favorable to the passage of such a luw
than it has been for a long time from the
fact that any measure passed bjtlie present
Congress oould nut be claimed as a party
measure, or charged as the work of any
particular party. What its fate will be in
the House e cannot say; but we believe it
will also pass that body, if, as we before ro.
marked, those interested in the measure
will use the proper means to inform their
representatives that such a law would give
satisfaction.
A Hit Between the Eyes.

A Hit Between the Eyes. Important Suit Against a Liquor
Vender.
An important suit bos just been decided
in tho Champaign (Ohio) County Common
l'leas. The action was brought under the
"act to provide against ths evils resulting
from ths sale of iotoiicating liquors," pass
ed May 1, 18.04, tha seventh section of which
gives to a wife, child, parent, guardian, em
ployer or other person, who shall be injured
in person, property or means of support, by
an intoxicated person, a right of action
- against the person who sold tha liquor to
tbe intoxicated person.
The plaintiff in tbe ease waa Jane ltrush,
and tbe defendant Peter lwson Pamages
laid at 10,UUO. Tbe plaintiff set forth in
her petition, that sba waa, on ths 2Sth of
April lost, and now is, the wife of one
Heed Brush; that said lteed liroeli waa, and
for a long time hitherto had been in the
habit ot getting intoxicated and drunk,
which waa well known to ths defendant
That said defendant, wall knowing the pro
tniees, did, on the 2'Jth of April last, IHd'.l,
in violation of law, sell and deliver to said
Hrush, one pint of whisky, which tha said
ltrush then and there drauk, . and with
which the said lteed lirush was mads drunk,
intoxicated and frenxiad. That in oome
quence of said aula, and - by means u f tho
said drunkenness, and while in tha state of
intoxication, said lirush did furiously seize
an ax, and without provocation upon the
part of plaintiff, with fores and violence eut
off her left foot, whereby tho plaintiff is now
crippled. ' , -
