They ucitly saw the sovereignty ol Ohio trampled upon, ami humanity outrngeu, because the Supreme' Court had said we must submit to licit mandate of despots, culled the Fugitive Sl:ie l.nw. ' " The pirates who kidimpiied him, having got hiiu into Kentucky, no longer claimed to own hiin, but iini-led thut he Khoiild lie sold to pay llieexpi-iises of his capture and imprisonment. rublic notice ot Ihe sale was given, and the people of Cincinnati looked on quietly, and saw a man, horn on our own soil, consigned to chains and sult'ering, instead of fattening the soil of Kentucky with the blood of live pirates. Instcnit ol laving .Newport in ashes, ttiev permitted the pirates of that city to enslave a li-eeinnii ol Lincinnnti. It was a unstaruly mbmission, disgraceful to our State. The Keiituckiniis came over to Cincinnati, precise ly ns Spanish and American pirates go to Af-ricn;- they sei.e nnd enslave freemen of Ohio, precisely as their tirother pirates seize and en dnve Africans. The ieople of Cincinnati iviih all the apparent imtiecility and cowurdice of the heathens of Africa, submit to see their people captured nnd enslaved. We are not sulliciently versed in cansistry to iliscovur any ditleretice in the guilt between the African and ihe Kentucky pirates, ' if one be worthy of the gallows, theother ought not to escape. Nor can we draw any very marked difference between the stupidity, the heathenism of the Africnns who' quietly sub mit to the jiirucv, and the barbarous snpine ncs maiiitestej by our brethren of Cincin nati. They however hold it the duty of good citizens to xubinit to such despotism; we would slny the despots ami pay the cowards who tremble before those who profess to execute despotic enactments. 'ihe Supreme Court say we must submit to this tyranuy, and our friends; in Cincinnati think' they nut bow submissively to such dic tation; we would strike down the tyrants, and pity the imbeciles who fear the power of des pot. Our State has been disgraced. " Its soil lias been contaminated with the foot-steps of pirates, and its citiien bow down and submit like cowards. We hope the pirates may next lake the Mayor of Cincinnati; he is just as lia ble a Wnggoner was, and as he seems wil .Ung to see his neighbors taken and enslnved, wo trust the pirates may next take him, a the people will not dare to oppose the Fugitive Law. They hold that "Obedience to tyrants ia obedience to (iod." The Cincinnati papers speak out, and charge the Democracy with this barbarism ; but we can discover no very great distinction between he Democrat who passed fugitive act, and those llepublicans who uphold it, saying we are bound to obey il. Wuggoner had received from the Creutor u right to liberty, and none but pirate would rob him of it. Palsied be the hand, und cursed be the man who would enslave liuiunii soul. The Reserve would give such men hospitable grave. vt e know not what tow. Uennisnn ha done or is doing in this, matter. The public will bold him responsible if he fails to do all that he is uiillioi i.ed to do in the premises, if ne cessary, let the Legislature be convened. Let efficient measures lie taken for the return of Waggoner ; or let the civil war which Ken tucky has thus waged upon our State, be met in n spirit of nianly resistance. U. Citizens of Southern Ohio, we ask you are the sentiments and doctrines of (he above such us you can eudor.se? Are you willing to join the ranks of those who thus openly de nounce and counsel resistance to the laws of the laud? who would thus nullify a Constitu tional requirement? Mr. (iinuiMis is in error in stiilin;.' that the Fugitive Sluve Law is a Democratic measure. It is one of the famous Compromise measure in which the prominent members in the Senate and House in 1850, of all parties, joined in passing, nnd became a law hy the signature of Mii.i.akii Fm.i.uohc, who was then President of the United States. It received the sanction und endorsement of both the great political parties (Democratic and Whig) ut their National Conventions In l't'i. Rut the question ns to who passed the bill, bus Hulking to do with its enforcement It is sufficient to know that it was regularly passed, and is Constitutional, to require at the hands of all good citizens, faithful and prompt obedience to its provisions. It may be dia- ostc ful to some it may come in conflict with individual views yet, so long as it remains upon the stntnte tsxik, it cannot be evaded without rendering the persona who attempt evasion, liable to the penalties attached. If the Republican- of this State, are sin cere in their 4simciutum 1 of It if the Re publican Stuftoiivcntion of this year as well as lust mean what they say, why do they not make an effort to repeal, it, at least ao far as their parly has the power? In the last House of Rcprrsontutl'ies the Opposition bad a large majority, why did they not, so Car as the House was conoerned, remove this act which they declar ''ablierrent to the moral sense of the eivilized world?", . Why .did not the Re publicans give the world evidence of the hot sty of their hatred of it by recording their votes in favor of its repeal? Such a course, certaiuly would have been much more to their credit a good aud loyal vUixaua, than to ooun. el resistance, even unto the committing of murder, to the officers whose duty it Is to en- force the law. The Republicans have de nounced it from the time it was first passed, or rather the free ooiter did, until the Re publican rmrtv took Ihe job nlT of llieir hand; yet, we cannot recollect of a rinirln instance where the party in Con.Tres ha ever made an united effort to bring iIkiiiI its rcpcul. Their profession nnd action thns fur, have certainly been at variance. Why is this? Was it liecnue an open nnd avowed attempt to do so, on the part of Republican memlier of Congress, might linve had the effect of driv ing from the rank certain runserriiice men, in Southern Ohio, who vote the Kepuhlicnu tickel? or was it because it might Hissibly weaken Mr. Cimwix's Influence in this sec lion? That the majority of Republicans in North ern nnd Southern Ohio, are as much opNwed to each other, on this question of obedience to the law, as two niitngonislie parties could he, cannot, with truth, he denied. While one section is preaching up disoliedicnce to its re quirement urging the people tu use every ellort, no matter how criminal, to prevent the olliccr from executing il provisions; in the other sectioii, men calling themselves Repub lican sjiend tlteir lime in proving it constitu tionality, asserting that "it must be olieyed," and that "those who resist it with nn armed force commit treason, nnd those a lio re dst it ninst be thnl must be huny." If, as some claim, that Republicanism i the same in all sections, why do we not find Coh WIN addressing Republican meetings in North ern Ohio, and Ouiiiixiis in Southern? if il i the same, why do we not find the articles of such paper a the S'Hlinrl, copied into the Jnurnut of this city, and the Juurnaft arti cles copied into the SeHtinrlf If tin ir views are identical, il certainly would not damage, and might aid, their party. True, one is par ticularly friendly to Cokwin, while the other is equally friendly to (iiuuiso, yet if they teach the same doctrines, what difference would that make? Why not let the ftepubli can of the Miami Valley rend the views en tertnined by their Northern brethren? and why not let the Republican of the Reserve see the position assumed by the Republicans in Ibis section? The trulh is, neither side dare do it. Such n course would only end in the disruption of the wrty in this State, beyond all the Kiwer of the managers to prevent it, nnd cause the people of Ohio to give nil overwhelming ma jority for the Democratic ticket [For the Empire.] Judge Haynes and the Superior Court. FA. Empire: Allow me a few words in re ply to a libel, in this morning s Juiirnat. uu pugniug the motives of the numerous Demo crat who hounrahlv enst aside their nnliticnl prejudices to join iif requesting Judge iIavnks to become an "imlepemleiil cnuilnlate, lor re-election to tho ottice he now so ahlv tills. This liliel was written by one who sign him self "Wide Awake." He ha well chosen his signature. Jt was proper thut a false, part i. uu communication, such a his, should be fathered by one who had sold hiiiiHelf out to politics and was wearing the uniform of his abject slavery. I am one of the Democrats he hs assailed. Circumstances have given me lietter knnwl- edire aliout this matter than most persons Kisses. I propose to diffuse thnt knowledge among the people. It it hurt certain iMihti cians, that is not my fault. They have put their mouth-piece lorwaru to assail high-min ded and honoruble gentlemen. Let them take the result I know thnt the proposition to run Judge Haynks as an "independent candidate" came train his intimate and republican Irienils, They were aware that he had many admirers in the Democratic party who would gladly vote for hiin a ch, Tnil who would not nnd could not support him, if a set of Republican intriguers and wire-worker undertook to use his influence nnd popularity to elect them selves into offices which they could not other wise obtain. Acting upon this knowledge, nitd not being desirous of hazarding his re election in the "iuteuse purtixnn strite" uhout to begin, they intimated that it would be more acceptable to them and to Judge Haykks to have his election williurnwn lrum the arena of iolitici. This proposition was met by tho Democracy in good faith, if there was any "confession of weakness," ns ulleeed hy this libeller, it was upon the part of the Re publicans. But they were right in desiring his crrtam re-election. Another thing I know to be true, which the public may as well lie told. Certain Republi can official in this county nnd certain aspi rants tor honors in the party, urn their nest to defeat the movement in favor of Judge Havnk. Professing to be his friends, they did all in their power to prevent lint was equal to a re election n Humiliation bv the people ol all parties. J hey were willing to make Judge Hay.nks a mere purti.an candi date, und tu hazard his election by a nomina tion which would have required u nomination ngninst hiin. Kveu Judge Hiynkh1 popularity might not hnve stood befure the swell of the ieople with Douglas at their head. Vet these jHjIiliciaus, cold blooded fellows who see noth ing but "party," and look lo nothing but their own advancement by "party," would hnve dragged Judge Haynfs down to their own level, in the hope that his name and influence might have given them ten or twenty votes more than t Key will otherwise get Are they not delectable gentlemen? Is it not refresh ing to hear them moan and complain by their mouth-piece "Wide Awake?" Another thing may ns well be told now as at any future period. These same politicians did all in their jiower to prevent Judge Haynks' acceptance. They tried jiersuosion first; and then, wheu their appeals failed, they dared to insinuate threats! Iet the people consider, wheu they read "Wide Awakes" communication, that the same party of politi cians, whose mouth-piece he is, and who de sired to bring the office of. Judge into the slough of poFitics thut they might profit by it alone, weut so fnr as to intimate thut if Judge Haynks accepted an independent nomination, the Republicans would demand a nomination which was equivalent to a threat that he should be thrown overboard. Let these in triguers try it, if they dure. The people of all parties would rise with the same unanimity with which they signed the call, and would put down these political wire-workers, ' who would rule or ruin every thing. The tieople honor nuch independence as Judge Haynks possesses. They honor and respect the man. And they will as certainly re-elect him as the dav comes round for the depositing of tlieir ballots. This is all I have to say at present Per haps I have been harsh in some of my re marks Rut I know the unanimity and eager ness with which ihe people everywhere hulled the movement which has been attacked as a "Democratic trick." I know the feelings of friendship and respect which actuated so ma ny personal friends of Judge Haykih in the Democratic party in taking the course they did. And I bate to see a souad of selfish in triguers undertake, for private ends, to thwart the wisnes 01 tne people. iet tuese germo meu understand thut they are iu such a wo ful miuority that I can count their names in one-half a minute. Perhaps they desire the public should know them. Let them continue to drag this question into politic aud to im pugn Die motive of others, and they may See their own names in print conclusion, Mr. Editor, let me repeat1 that I ItHox that the proposition to run Judce Hatkis "without reference to purty," came ' .,.-.4 from prominent Republican. -ho werr'ftt the mine time his few f,imi; and that respect for hi talent, impnvtinlity and abilitiea, nnd a love for his genial qualities a a gentleman nnd a scholar, prompted Ihe Democracy in accepting that pnqKisition with Ihe heartiness thev have exr.ibileit.
