Comic Almanac for 1893, and Ovsters Oysters Oysters I 19th Regular!. We have just received a letter from an officer of the 19th Regulars, dated and post-marked at Nashville, on the luthinstl That's quick work between Nash ville and Dayton leas than four days. Oor correspondent sayi that the Dayton boys are well as far as he knowa . E. Time Our Railroad Time-Table having been set to the) Winter Arrangement, can be depended on by the public. We are much obliged to Mr. Sam. W, King, General Ticket Agent at the Union Depot, for the Table combining all the Roads (entering at this point. Cloakl Tbn season of rain and mad will doubtless goon be succeeded by extreme cold weather. Get your Cloak Patterns, Lav dies, and take them to the Rooms of the Misses Troup, Third street, 3d door West of the Phillips House. They are worthy, and turn out the best quality of work for ladies and children. Fire in Slidertown. The fire alarm last night about 10 o'clock, was caused by the burning of a email shanty in Slidertown, beyond Ferneding'i Brewery. The engines were out promptly, bat the fire "simmered down before they could reach the place. The damage was alight, Sporting We learn that Mike Steicer of the popular firm of Steiner A Ritty, No. i5, North side of the Market ia on of the party out in the Big Woods, Paulding county, hunting deer, bear, and other extras. We don't know how Mike handles a shooting-iron, but if any of the varmints out there come within reach of his knife or cleaver, they'll be bis frwaf sarting I Consolidation. We have received a let ter from our young friend Sergeant Lyman H. Bata, who is in Camp near Cleveland, 0. He informs us that the fraction of the 84th to which his company Capt. Berry Kerfoot belonged, has been swallowed up in the 124th Ohio. The boys of company I bad not yet been mustered into the new regiment, and they objected to the arrangement on the ground that it will deprive Major John E. Winder of hii proper position ia the regi ment. All the boys of the Old 84th went into the re-oftuiation with vth distinct un derstanding that Winder should be Major, and Ihey very properly feel aggrieved at the new order of tbinga Capt. Wiader was beloved by his men ; for ha personally attended to baving their wants supplied ; ia sickness he spared neither pains or expense to alleviate their sufferings. Such is the grateful award of those whe have the best right to know. And the Captain was deservedly popular with the entire 84th, for he has the faculty of ren dering attention and kindness wherever he saw they were needed. It is sot to be won dered at that the 84th boys should be Indig nant at the oveislaughing of their favorite Major with a civilian who don't know any thing about war.' Lyman winds np his letter by giving us an excellent description of the Cleveland Water Works, one of the meat complete institutions of the kind any where. If it were not for the depressing war times we wosld again ad vocate the early erection of such works Id this vicinity. ' Ws are glad to note that the Day tea boys in the 124th are wall, .it) ,o,.i tu I . I X .. ! ' 1 i ! Death of Sr. James We regret to an nounce to our readers the death of Dr. W. P. Jambs, which occurred on Friday night 14th insL, at his residence in Centreville, in this oonnty. We learn that about two weeks ngo Dr. J. was eat on a 'track," in the vioinity, exercis ing and training a young horse. While go ing at a rapid pace it is said the horse stum bled, breaking the surcingle, and precipitating the rider with great force to the ground, in juring him seriously. The Doctor was promptly and carefully re moved to his home where he received the most kindly attention from his family and friends, and be had the best medical skill that could be procured. We learn that the Doctor suffered very much until last Tuesday night, when he was taken with look-jaw, and ftoin that time till he died his physical agony was terrible. His funeral took place in Centreville, on Sunday, nd was very largely attended, the Masonic Fraternity officiating in the solemn ceremo nies. . I i Dr. James was good-hearted, to a fault be had a large circle of acquaintances and friends; was generally eteemed in communi ty ; and he was a physician of respectable acquirements, large experience, and exttin sive practice. Hew Paper in Troy. It is with more than ordinary pleasure that we announce to the deniaene of the Miami Valley, that a livt newspaper a Semi-weekly Institution is at last to make its appearance in Troy. We are informed Messrs. Locke tt Hustler will issue the first number of the "Semi-weekly Trojan" to-morrow ; and that thereafter it will contin ue to make its appearance on Wednesdays and Saturdays each recurring week so long as the people of Troy and Miami county give It the patronage the enterprise merits. The projectors are practical printers, and have the ability to make a popular paper.' We can speak more specially of their performance when we shall have scanned their paper. In the mean time, look out for the "Semi-weekly Trojan." Fir. On Friday night last the house of Mr, Samuel Sears, in Washington township, was entirely destroyed by fire. Almost every thing was burned with the building, the occupants barely escaping with their lives and clothing. Our informant does not know how the fire originated, but it must have been burning for a long while before it was discov ered ; for the whole building was In flames when the family were aroused, and escaped from the place in their night clotbea Mr. 8. was not Insured, and as he had valuable fur niture and household effects his loss will bear heavily npoa him. It is fortunate, after all, that he ia a "well-to-do farmer," and can ob tain the means to build another house, and furnish It . - - RemOTei Our readers especially those who have use for fire-arms will see by an advertisement in another place that Messrs. M. Schneider k Son, have removed their es tablishment to No. 109, West side of Main street, one door below the Mayor's Office. Their Store and Manufactory are now com plete, the building having been adapted ex pressly for them. Our country readers will please bear In mind the removal of Metiers. Schneider to 109 Main street Heller-ish. Professor Heller afforded a large number of our citizens a vast deal of gratification and amusement last week by means of his unequalled Magic and Music Bat he is gone, and we are again thrown on our own resources. But the young people can continue their magical studies by procur ing Heller-ish apparatus at James Rickey's Book 8tor, 826 Third street where the best School Books, Pens, Psper, Ink, Ac, are ob tained.
