Their performance is alons worth two prices of admiaaion to any one. 3 I The Anniversary Yesterday we Wle'. ly alluded to the loot that it was the Anniver sary of St. Patrick the . Patron Saint ol Ireland, that the Irish Societies, with the Her man. Benevolent Association ai guests, were nut in procession, and that Iho Ladies of St. Joseph's Church would give a Festival at Hibernian Hall, at night, in honor of the oc casion. The Progrumtne was carried out in the best order, and the exercises were most interesting. The Procession, which was in charge of Dr. Conway as Grand Marshal, and headed by the Regimental Baud, marched through the principal streets, the members of the severul Societies wearing handsome regalias, and bearing aloft our National Flag, and the Banners of the Associations. The display was one of the most respectable we ever wit nessed here. We greatly regret that ill health prevented ns from attending the Festival in the even ing. A friend whom we charged with tb commission of reporter, informs ns that the occasion was one of the most agreeable he ever attended. Hibernian Hall was beauti folly decorated for the Festival. Everywhere were to be seen evidenoea of the handiwork of the Ladies; but nowhere were these evi deuces more sttrnetively displayed thau upon the ample table whose broad surface was laden with luxuries most tempting to the ap petite ; generous cheer meet for kings. At this point we desire to say that we have heard certain epicures awad to the Ladies of St Joseph's Church the highest praise for the admirable quality and style of the entertain inent. The Hail was comfortably crowded, and we are gratified to learn that the very best order prevailed during the entire evening, ronseqiienlly the entertainment was n suc cess both in a pleasant and pecuniary point of view. The Supper over, the evening was mainly devoted to short speeches, appropriate to the Day. Interesting addresses were made by Mr. Vallandighara, Mayor (iillespie, Dr. Conway, Mr. Marol of the Journal, Mr. Bills, Dennis Dwyer, and by others, whose names wn do not remember. Altogether the occasion was very agreeable ana win ne long remembered, it was cer tainly an improvement on the usual celebra tions of St. Patrick's Day to include the La dies, and we doubt not that ou subsequent returns of the Day, their presence will be deemed indispensable. many persons attempt to iaxc contrauana money" down South for (he purpose of buy sugar, ing cotton on the sly, and are caught at it; but do we ever see any thing in the telegraph about it, unless the aniucky fellows are "Jew Doing I A House full of fuu at Huston Hall to-night ! In the Commercial I special despatch from Cairo, we find the following item: ' Two Jewish passengers were relieved of sixty-lour tbousaud dollars contraband money Dy uoverninent oitioers. 'There is an order, we believe, which pro hibits capitalists from taking gold South, and buying cotton with it It would seem, from its reading, that it was intended to apply to every body, but we have bad abundant evi dence tokuow that exceptions have lieea made in favor of political favorites, who, by paying a bonus, are permitted to buy as much cotton as they can secure. This is not fair. All wh i are willing to pay fur the privilege and take the chances, should be allowed to pur- chssa cotton, or the privilege should lie with nem trom all. What w most reprehend is tlie4invidious distinction made by the uews reporters between persons of different notion alilies. There is no doubt but that a great ish passengers?
