REBEL INVASION.
Louisville, March 27 The Frankfort
train last Bight in delayed by a lo-omotire
off the trach.
The train brought newt of the retreat of the
rebeli from Danville towards Summerset.
Danville refugee! are coining in, and Home
excitement exists at Lexington.
But popular opinion Rains ground that the
recent iovation of Kentucky wag merely a
cavalry raid.

The Fradkfort train it in. Passengers disa
gree in their reports concerning the evacua
tion of Danville.
A special dispatch to the Journal says :
Eighty men of the 9th Kentucky Cavalry
surprised the rebels pickets in the viociuity of
Danville, who retreated to Danville in great
disorder.
The rebel force in Danville was 25,000, in
cluding the 1st Georgia Regiment. This
proves that the rumor of the revel abandon
ment of Danville it Incorrect.

AT VICKSBURG.
from Lake Providence 16th says
Contrary to belief expressed in a former dis
patch, the authorities concluded to let in the
water at sundown to-day, the water was pour
ing in threatening Iriend and toe alike
Aperture twenty feet wide already visibly
wieening at the mouth. By morning the
greater part of the town of Lake Providence
wilt be submerged

Nubile, March 23. The Appeal of the 21st
ays the steamer Natchez with 1,300 bales of
cotton, was destroyed by tire on the 13th, on
her trip up the Yaioo.
The Han ford and Mouongahela were allow
ed to approch wiihin 4UU yards of our batte
riet at Gran Ualf, when theyopened fire upon
them. The vessels replied with broadsides
several times.
A dozen shots struck the vessels and par
ties were teen carrying the wounded below.
No damage on nor aide.
The Natches Conriear tayt, the H irtford,
with Com Farragnt on board, anchored in
franl of that city on Tuesday evening, the 1C,
and tent a small boat with a Hag of truce
ashore, with a note addressed to the mayor
slatting that if the United Slates gunbOHts
were fired upon by the people of Natches or
by guerrillas he would bombard the city.
The Hartford remained all night, and left
with the Monongahela in the morning.

THE REBELS AT BULL RUN.

Shenandoah. If true, this would account for
movements of the enemy at Banks aud U S
Fords to prevent the crossing of any portion
of Hookers army, also tor continued preseuce
of rebel cavalry along the lines of defences of
Washington to prevent scouting.
Intelligence received to-night of the appear
ance of rebels in the vicinity of Vienna
Official and private advices received here
from tbe city of Mexico to 2d of March, week
later than last mail All letters written in
best spirits and speak with unabated confi
dence ot certainty of success against French
invaders. Facts which they communicate
tend to show on juttice of their anticipations.
So far from having taken the city of Mexico,
at rebel journals asserted, an advanced within
eleven leagues of Gen Forry, they had fallen
back 20 miles. On 2;"th he was within 15
miles of Pnebls but on 2d inthe was 35 miles
distant. It was however anticipated Puebla
would be attacked by 15th inst.
NEWS FROM VICKSBURG.
New Yori, March 28. The Tribuiu dis
patch from Washington states, late last night
that the Government had received informa
tion from the Mississippi that the only vessel
of Farragut's fleet which has been heard of
by our forces opposite Vicksburg is the Hart
ford. Rebel telegrams from Vicksburg, how
ever, say the Monongahela passed Port Hud
ton in ber company.
Congressman Casey arrived from Kentucky
to-day and expresses the opinion that the
rebels really meditatao invasion of bis State
in force. Their sympathisers are expeuting
them and loudly boast that they will occupy
and hold the whole Kentucky The Invasion
it a necessity with them, in Casey's opinion,
Dow that they have lost the Mississippi ; (That
they have lost it be cousiders almost certain)
it being impossible for them to subvert tbe
garrisons of Port Hudson and Vicksburg
unless they can draw supplies from the West
tide of the river which our fleet commands,
the move easily and thoroughly now while the
water is to high.
