The wisdom of insurance against all the ills to wh'ch flesh sud property are beir has come to be so generally acknowl edged that the only remaioiug question seems be in what company shall we insure. The readers of the Journal will naturally wouder when such language was found in its columns. do we. Whether the hallucination was the reflex of the editor's own estimate of himself, or whether he is trying to get up sympathy in his behalf as a persecuted individual, or ouly raves desperation because we do not descend to bis style argument, is matter of less consequence. tbsu uncertainty. If it should happen to be the case that the method and object of bis strained blackguardism is to provoke us to retort in like manner, it may be well enough to remark that such a purpose will always fail. Exhibitions like that in last week's Messenger are provocative the mind of decent people only of pity, and shame for humanity's sake. THE FIREMAN'S TOURNAMENT AT FINDLAY L.AY Resulted ss f dlows: The Steam Fire Kugiue Adriatic, No. i, of Tiffin, threw 878 feet, and took the prise, without coniietition. The Fremont Jtescue Hook and Ladder Co., No. 1, . ran 43 rods, up grade, stacked the ladder aud placed a man un- top, in 1! seconds taking the prize. The prise for Hose Company was taken, by. the Ttfin, which made the ruu, reeled ctf 101) feet of hose and attached hose and muzzle, in 50 seconds. All the prises awarded were silver trumpets. That brought home by the Rescue boys Is a beautiful instrument, and cost $75. It is now on exhibition at Leppelmau's jewelry store. V SOLDIERS' FREE CLAIM AGENCY—NO CHARGE FOR SERVICES. We ask attention to the advertisement in an other column, of the "Frae Claim Agency" of the Soldiers' A id Society, at Cleveland. That our readers may see that this is a geuuine work of philanthropy, we will explain where the money comes from for the prosecution of these claims. The Soldiers' Aid Society at Cleveland was organized Jn 186, and has been carried on with such energy and ability that it has not only been the most active Society in the Union in the relief of soldier in the field and at home, but it ha also accntnulated a sur plus fund in its treasury. The great Sanitary Fair at Cleveland in 1864, whiph our readers will remember, was a complete and splendid success, realizing to its treasury a net proceed of many thonssnd dollars. With all the heavy expenses of the Society, its administrative and financial departments have been so admirably conducted that the directors are now able to ap propriate quite a sum to this benevolent enter, prise. They are now refunding to the citizens of Ohio their surplus money by this gratuitous service to the soldiers. . Their policy is, to collect kvkst claix w ohio fob kothinu. They have every facility for the work, and earnestly solicit every soldier and sailor in the State who is entitled to pay, pension, bonnty, prize money or indemnity from the V. S. Government, under the old or new laws, to send them his claim for collection. Blanks snd instructions will be fqrnixhed every claimant, so that applications may be made aa well by letter as in parson, addressed to the agent t Cleveland, Ohio, ' - It. FAMILY TROUBLES. Since our good-natured and charitable remarks upon Auditor HafTs incompetency, some of the more intelligent democrats have been giving him private lessons in spelling and the common details of his office. They have reprimanded him pretty severely, too, for his sins of ignorance, representing to him that he is a great damage to the party. He replies that they ought not to have elected him then, and that others of their officers are as bad as he in this particular. To which they make answer, that there is no dan ger of his being elected again at all events; and, if others don't know any more than he, they st least know enough not to be always exhibiting their stupidity. His cruel masters go on to ob serve, that an Auditor who can't make out a road duplicate so that the township clerk can at least guew the true meaning and intent of it might better resign and let a black republican be elected in his place, and that if he knows no belter than to spell city, "s-i-t-t-y," and road, "r-'o-d-e,"and treasurer, "t-r-e-a-s-h-u-r-e," and Baker, "B-a-c-e-r," he had far better be attend ing a primary school than pretending to audit the affairs of Saudusky county. Among important helps science has of late years been able to avail itself, not the least is the microscope. Smith & Beck of London, and Queen of N. V. City, now man ufacture instruments of marvellous power.. One of the latter has just been purchased and brought to this place by Dr. J. H. Corey. The lenses alone, or object-glasses, of this instrument; cost $60. Its diameters are, 50, 250, 400, 600, 800, and 1,000. That is, articles msy be magnified made to appear one thousand times larger than they are, and with perfect distinctness. The Doctor uses the microscope to detect dis eased deposites in the blood, flesh, orother ele ments of the human system. Its use is said to be sssential to the surest and best treatment of such diseases as gravel, oxaluria, lucocytheania and others resulting from impure blood, Under microscopic examination, the precise character of these impurities is detected. Even con sumption can be detected in its very earliest tages, and while yet curable, by a examination of the sputa. All branches of science derive more or less help from this wonderful instrument. ' The cu rious and the learned may examiue Dr. Corey's his office, in Buckland s Block. . A look through its magic lenses is worth a dozen nigger shows." - - " SEDUCTION AND SUICIDE. On Sunday morning last, Miss Anna Richards committed suiciae at me residence ol Her brother, Mr. Julius Richards, in Green Creek Township, about four miles east of Fremont. The home of Miss Richards wss in Wsyno county, where her mother resides. She had been visiting with her brother's family for about two months.. During this time she tie came acquainted with one Zimri Crane, to whom she engaged herself to be married. The wed- iug was to have takon place about the 4th of July. But Crane having seduced the young woman, a few days since sent her word that he should not marry her.- In desperation at her ruined condition, she resolved on suicide; and finding in the house a bottle containing about two or three teaspoonfuls of corrosive sublimate, she swallowed the poison, and died in two hours, having endured the most intense suffer ing. A few minutes after having swallowed the fatal draught, Miss Richards confessed (he fact to her sister-in-law, and also her reason for ending her life, and her condition of pregnancy. physician was immediately sent for, but did uot reach the house until life hsd become extinct. An inquest was held by Esq. Dickinson, Dd a verdict rendered in accordance with the facts as above stated. There is no law in Ohio, whereby the guilty party iu this melancholy tragedy may be brought to justice. MARRIED. By Rev. M.
