Howie would not be complete withont a Prip

and from Tontogany, on the arrival of tho mail

The New Years Greeting.
On Wednesday evening tho 29lh ult.,tlio Con
gregationallsrs ha kn exhibition In Rued A Ron
tRS Hall, which was very tastefully decorated for
the occasion, and had a crowded audience. The
charge for adn.ission was fifty cents, the pro.
eeeds bring Intended as a New Year's Gift to their
past ir, Rev. Mr. Irons.
The progrnmme consisted of music, declama
tions, an 1 an exhibition of tableaux. Tho music
was excellent, indeed We have seldom heard nny
amateur performer to surpass Miss Emha How
cm., in compass of voice and power of execution.
The tableaux exhibited W'as very pretty ; that of the
I, or l's Praver, an I the chant accompanying it, was
exceedingly Interesting. The only mishap on the
occasion was that of a young gentleman, who, as
a stranger in the neighborhood, w ished lo show
the force of true eloquence to the ritirens, he de
claimed a little ton much. The first piece was
tolerably well committed In memory, and except,
ing the tremenduous display of gesticulation, the
rapid utterance and school-boy monotone, passed
wttli the audience. In the second dose of decla
mation, our rhetorical frienJ, illu.-trat.d the pnsi
tion of Owen Glkndowkr, calling spirits from the
vasty deep, nnd when he called they would not
com . Our young friend Goiuili.L, however, came
t the rescue, and as prompter, helped the orator
out of his scrape.
The address of Miss R.VYliONn was well writtcn(
and highly interesting, nnd was gracefully deliv
ered. A ft -r the gilts had been pMseiui to the
clergyman and his Indy, nil present joined in pnr.
taking nf a bountiful supper, to wiiich ample jus
tice was done. .
Th'-rc is ono f ;ct which is pleasant to noticei
that there was an earnest nnd cordial friendship
manifested, in th"sc gatherings which speaks well
for social relations at Howling Green. Tho pro
ceeds of the evening amounted to $1)5.
The New Years Greeting. Our New School Building.
The Pcrrysburg Hoard of Eilucation hive re
cently contracted with Messrs. Lbks and Tironx
ton to construct n brick Schoid-house, from a de
sign and specifications furnished by that justly
celebrated Toledo archileot, C C. Mil. Lull, Esq.
When completed, the building will bo an ormunuit
to the place.
Its dimensions iire as follows: 53 by TO feet on
t'le f .ntidatimi, with three stories. The first and
second, floors will lift ve two maiu rooms for school
purposes, , with aiite-rooins for outside garments,
hats, caps, etc., of students, together with un am
ple vestibule for Ingress and egrets. The outside
elevation w ill be 10 feet to cornice, the top of the
belfry being SO feet higher,' thus making a total
elevation of 70 feet. The higtt between flows
will be as follows: Lower floor 10 feet 2 inches,
second floor 12 feet 5 inches. Tho upper floor has
an elevation of 14 feet to tht 'ceiling, and will be
arranged with folding doors, so as to throw the
whole spneo 31 by 70 feet into one large room,
which will be used as a lecture room on especial
occasions; There is also a recitation room at
tached to the lecture room, so that in point of con
venience and adaptation to scholastic purposes,
this School-house wilt possess all the modern ap
pliances. Tho contract price for its erection is $11,500, but
when its internal and externul arrangements are
complete the whole cost will probably reach
$15,000.
