Tbe statistics of the Presbyterian Church In the United States of America show that it has 87 Synods, 178 Presbyteries, 4,007'minis- ten, 5,269 churches, 507,855 membets and 599,882 Sunday school members. Its benevo lent contributions last year reached $3,281, 956. Congressman Elect Updegraff, accord ing to the Commercial Oaeette, spoke with great acceptance during last week to large meetings in various parts of tbe city of Pitts burgh, and adds that he is very popular to the city. The concern was really never on a thoroughly solvent foundation. It attempted to do bus iaess with little or no capital, and was al ways at the disadvantage of the market both buying ana selling. I be debt lorwnicn has failed is the bonded bed created before the panic, at the time of its reorganization. which debt was due on the 1st of September last, since which time tbe company has been default for both principal and interest. These bonds are held by private parties, for the most part, and the balance of the $90,000 held by seven banks and by private parties. and represents the endorsed paper of the com pany. Tne noidtngs oi any one creditor are not lanre, and as the individual members of the company are fu'ly liabln. and have put their private estates into the assignment, it would seem as if little or nothing can be lost any of tbe creditors. It is quite likely tbat tne company -will be granted-an exten sion, and thereby gain time and opportunity handle their property to tbe best advant age, in the way of finding a market for their remaining stock and a sale lor tneir real prop erty. Their property is no doubt valuable, but it needs ample means and energetic, close, practical management in order to make tbe business a success. Church, died at his residence, on last x nday evening, and was interred it the cemetery of Harmony church last Sunday Mr. Patterson had been suffering from physi cal prostration and partial mental derangement for two years or more. The officers who heard the statements of Selvy, are convinced from facts already in their possession, that he makes substantiall y a correct showing of the whole business. Upon being informed of the state ment, Mr. Morton bad a warrant issued for tbe arrest of Chas- Collins and James Wil liams two -of the parties implicated by Selvy, but it is su posed luat by some means they became acquainted with the turn affairs had taken and "lit out' early on Tuesday morning. Officers Rice and Neiswanger about eight o clock the same morning started down Jug Run, the direction supposed to have been taken, and scoured Harrison coun ty pretty tb orougbly without finding any trace of tbe men they wanted, returning yesterday Selvy, also, was arrested and in default of bail for his appearance, was committed to jail Tbe end is sot yet, but the vigilant eyes of the officers are open with a view of detecting every one of this crew, several of whom are known. It is hoped tbat Prosecutor Eaton will put hia wits to work and ferret out this entire gang and bring them all to tbe bar of justice. ol or Assignment of the Bellaire Manufacturing Company. The Bellaire Manufacturing Company, Of which A. Vr. Anderson is President, and C. Poorman Secretary and manager, made an assignment on Monday to Messrs. li. If. Low' and E- U. Morgan, for the benefit of cred itors. The liabilities of the company are about $90,000. Following the company's as- signmeat four of the prucipal stockholders, viz : Anthony Sheets, juage a. w. Ander son, Isaac lootn, ana capu Andrew smith, who bad become guarantors on tbe company s paper, also made an assignment of their indi vidual Drorjortv. The individual assets of the tockhoiders which consist in the main of valuable real estate in Bellaire and vicinity, has been carefully figured, and it is thought not possible for them to fall below $150,- 000. The occasion of the assignment is said be tbe inability of the company to realize property belonging to it. rersona in a position to know, inform us that there need no uneasiness on the part of creditors of the company, as the assets are more than ample to liquidate all indebtedness. His young wife was almost stricken down with grief, as his death was unexpected to all ex cept perhaps his physician. The disease causing his death was erysipelas. The news of the death of Samuel Lewis tins caused the hearts of all who knew him to iie filled with sa ncss, and an appreciation of his many good qualities is fixed in their hearts forever. Miss. Dr. John Campbell, spent the night of Saturday, October l'Jth, with him, working for his relief, and we are glad to state that he is now much better. Mr. Joslph Ci'lbrktson fell a short time sinee, and fractured three of his ribs, and has been unable to take one of his accustomed hearty laughs. '1 his has occurred at a very opportune time, as he cannot be said as feeling despendent over the election returns. but over the condition of his ribs. No one is so cruel as to say "Salt River" to him, but all desire to know that he may soon be well. While Messrs. Gecbge and Joe- SnAKr were engaged in felling timber, they cut from the body of an oak three rifle balls, which were imbedded eight inches from the surface, and no sign of the course raado by them in entering the tree, as the wood was solid be tween the bark and where they were hidden Mr. Joseph Sharp counted thirty-five growths in the cutting. Another ccriositt is one of a second crop of pears grown upon a tree in a lot owned by Mr. Boyd Cameron. There was no frost here to injure vegetation until the night of the 19th inst. Mr. Everetts has taken possession ef the m:ll property owned by Mr. Beam, and which m so badly damaged by tbe late flood, and he has already commenced to repair. The wall of the dam which was washed out, will be rebuilt at once also all needed repairs will be made, necessary to getting the mill speedi ly in running condition, when they will be continued until tbe same is put in proper order. Literary Societies have been organized in this town, and in the Lyle and Grade School Districts- 1 hey promise fair, as much inter est seems, to be manifested.
