Much has been said of the'destiny of
this county when the pine shall all have
been exhausted, and many are of the
opinion that it will never develop into
farms, t But itscenia to me that if farm
ers would only turn their attention to
the natural adaptation of the soil,
which is pre-eminently for stock rais
ing and fruit growing; tae future of
Lake county would no longer be a prob
lem. It Is well kuown that these plains
will produce im me use crops of roots
aud tuberev Why not -aubwtitute the
nutricious carrot for corn fodder in win
tering -etoek? - And why should the
hills not be covered with peach or
chard, high above the early attacks of
J. Frost? What I know alout farming
might, probably, be condensed into a
eniull volume, but it doet Necm- that
uch an investment of labor would paj'
far Utter than trying every year to
force a scanty crop of cereals from the
soil. Will some practical fanner give
us his views on the subject?
