Two little children named Lillie were burned to death at Coopersville, Ottawa county, by the fire which destroyed their home Sunday night. The shingle mills of Manistee and Ludington, all of which have shut down for thirty days, comprise twenty-one, and are the principal mills of the country. A Grand Rapids youth named William son is alleged to have eloped with the girl his widower father wanted to mar ry. She was young, buxom, and had $500 in cash. James K. Lockwood, who ha.! for many years been interested in lumbering in the Alpena district, where he was a prominent citizen, died at Put-in-Bayon Sunday last, aged 03 years. Swine ford, editor of the Marquette Mining Journal, who alleges that Newett, through his paper, has libeled the great and good Marquotter.' Grand Rapids Times: Oil Inspector Adams informed a reporter of the Times yesterday that he was preparing to bring a test suit against some of the users of gasoline and naphtha. He claims that the state law strictly forbids the use of gasoline, naphtha, benzinejor any of the lighter products of petroleum as a fuel or for lighting purposes. The law says that the petroleum used must be of a certain quality, must be of a flash test of 120 degrees and water white. There are now about 300 gasoline stoves iu op eration in this city, and in accordance with Mr. Adams' ideas, they are being run in opposition to the state law. State Oil Inspector C. G. Luce agrees with Mr Adams in regard to the illegality of us ing gasoline. Test cases will be com menced in a few days against some of the users of the fluid in this city and al so at Detroit, Adrian and Jackson. Pros editing Attorney Maynrad will have charge of the prosecution here. True Frlendn. Who are the true friend of the boys? We mean the true devoted friends. This is a question every boy as soon as he arrives at an age to see what is right and what is wrong, shonld be urged to see for himself, and settle it it for him self. Boys think; Is he who pats you on the back and tells you "that is right" when you have whipped some other boy for some triflling causes? is he your true friend? Supposing the other boy had whipped you! Would not this pre tended friend be just as earnest in cheer ing him and shaming you? You have noticed that where there is a crowd of rough men and boys together they flatter the Doy that does the most daring act, no matter now wrong that act may be Are they the friends of that boy? is he your true fried who gives you five cents to bribe you to swear? Do your true friends teach you to smoke, chew or loaf on the street i Do they ask you to go in to saloons and drink ( No, boys; no True friends show you that it is wrong to be fool-hardy,they tell you that it is sinful to swear; that chewing, smoking loafing and drinking are dangerous habits and pray you not to form those habits. Your true friends beg of you not to go to saloons. They beg of you not to loaf because Idleness is a crime tnat often leads some bovs into rambling halls and from gambling halls into other dens of vice, and inio saloous to wrecK their lives. Then, boys, think, remember that your true friends will lead vou awav from bad habits and help you to become honest and useful men. -Exchange. ' . I A WonmuVi Experience.
