u , world. But alas! how vain are earthly hopes. How transient earthly bliss, the morning cloud the evening flower the vnpor that flies before the morning sun, bespeak the failing character of earthly joy. Behold in her case, while her star is steadily ri sing to its zenith, in an hour It is obscured In death. The subject of this brief notice had been blessed with a pious mother's early instruction and prayers, and during the past winter has often been strongly impressed with the importance of a "personal preparation of heart to meet God. Often has she resolved to attend to the subject, but like too many, still delayed, thinking there was time enough yet. But the fatal hour drew near that was to try her, nd teach a group of sorrowing friends and rela tives, the importance of &c?aready. To'her Pas tor who saw her but a few hours before her exit, she said with much earnestness, " I ought to have attended to these things before when I was well." Again on being urged to take hold of and trust in the Savior, she responded, " I fear it is too late," yet after religious exercise her mind became more calm, and she seemed to lay hold by faith on the hope set before her, though with a trembling hand, and said " I hope God's blessing will be upou me" and immediately expressed an earnest wish for the salvation of her friends. How does this bereavement say to the lingering, prepare. How strange the infatuation that defers the work of life to a few brief moments and these moments disturbed by pain and the fearful associ ations of the dying scene. Her funeral was attend ed on the 13th inst., by a large concourse of peo ple, and particularly did the young feel that death was in their midst. F. A. Blades. (Jrntul Ilnven Market.
