Collector David Good, of Fulkerson, Scott County, died on Saturday night. Before he died he made a statement which we will publish in full next week, and offers $100 reward for the arrest and delivery of his murderer, Wm. J. Hensley, whom he describes as 45 years of age, weight 140, height 5 eet 10 inches, spare made, dark com plexion, dark hair, bald on top of head front tooth out, and rather mild in conversation. Our exchanges please copy. Horse Training for the Border Fair. Mr. J. C. Conway has just purchased of Messrs, Cross & Crosby, of Chatta nooga, or rather has had them to meke to order for him, a complete trotting outfit, consisting of the lightest and most elegantly Quished Sulky and har ness we have yet seen in the country The entire weight of the Sulky ij eighty-nine pounds. livery particle of metal in it is steel, including even the tire. As a bit of elegant mechau icism we had no idea the like of it could have been produced anywhere in the South. It is designed express ly for the trotting races at the next fall 'airs, and particularly for the Bristol Border Fair. Parties intending to train theh horses for that occasion would do wel1 to employ MY. Conway, who is par. ticularly skilled in the business, and i9 now equipped for it as no one else has ever been in this country. The wood work of the Sulky is all of second-growth hickory, the hubs are of the new emperor patent, and the bridle is double-bitted. The whole outfit looks as light as an ordinary long-legged spider. Murder in Scott. On Monday or Tuesday of last week. Collector David Good, of Fuliceiwn Township, in Scott county, near the Washington county line, was shot and we fear mor tally wounded by Wilburn J. Hens ley. Mr. Good tad levied on Hens 'ey's cow for taxes and having driven her away she was followed and driven back. Hensley procuring a guard Good returned for the cow, and was driving her away, when Hensley shot him, using a rifle gun, of large calibre, the bail passing through the muscle of the arm and into the body, passing through one. of the lungs and lodging against the-sternum. He was carried away by hfs guard and was, at our latest advic-es, not expected to recover He is a young man, a son of Spencer Good and a brother of Rev. Martin Good of the M. K. Church, South. The Good family "have all been re publicans, but David at the last elec. tion voted the conservative ticket and was elected by that party. Hensley wiio slew him hat always been a radi cal and is a very dangerous man. He was iu the Mexican war. Mr. Good is being waited onjby Dr?. Spurgiu and Helton. Hetsley is now at large an at least 100 men have been iu pursuit of him. Called W'c are reliably informed that Elder B. Smithson was badly poisoned on last Friday, by swallowiug Tartar Emetic. Dr. Vance had directed him to take Cream of Tartar, and after the Doctor had left Mr. S. asked Mr, Galloway to go to the drug store and procure for him tome Tartar Emetic. When Dr. Pep per filled Mr. Galloway's verbal order he took care to write on the nackace the amount to betaken for a dose. With out noticing the directions, however, Mr. Smithson mixed two teaspoonfuls of it, and immediately exclaiined h believed it -vould burn him up. Phy sicians were summoned in all possible haste, and we are glad to state that he is now thought not to be in any eerious danger. The error was wholly his own, aa we are informed, A Trip to Eagle Furnace. On last Tuesday, ihe writer of this, accompa nied by Mr. J, M. Barker, visited the Eagle Furnace, five miles S. W. of Bristol, wb'e're we spent very pleasant, ly, a portion of tbe day, with the cul tivated and. hospitable lessees, Mers. Benjamin Gallop, & Son: These gen tlemen have leased for five years, of Mr. Riley Stone, 60 acres, including the furnace, which now being remod died and improved so as to increase its capacity very largely. The pioprie tors have already erected a new store house and have therein, quite a hand- 8drae stock of new go&ds. Coal hous es and other buildings are being erec- tedf and every preparation made for a $ery active business. We witnessed the arrival of a platform Scales,' capa ble of weighing five tons, and to be used Id ascertaining the weight of all coal, ore, and other material purchas ed. Col. Gallop is a successful! iron manufacturer, and will, we tbinfc, do much to develop the great Interest in our vicinity. The Kerjdrick's Creek difficulty, was settled by the agree ment on tht part of the County, to re lease the contractors, and to take tbe Bridge, which it will proceed to re. pair and cover. The Court also agreed to release from taxation, all new manufacturing en terprises. J. II. Cross was elected County Surveyor. We regret to state, that the Court rejected the new Road law. This cer tainly tends to drive out enterprise and manufactures. Two gentlemen from the upper endf announced themselves candidates for the Legislature Col, I. B. Dunn is now able to drive to town, using his left arm only, as the right shoulder is yet incapable of voluntary motion. He Is otherwise, in excellent health, and we hope to see this impediment removed, within a reasonable time. DM. Mr. Wiley Carmack died on last Friday, at ' his home some three miles in the country. He was a very excellent citizen. Great Soutlvem Menagerie, Thu comprehensive and elaborate estab lishnient pronounced one of the greatest combinations of caravan, museum, hippodrome, aquarium and circus on the road with all its colossal and wondrous proportions, will visit our city on Friday the 17th inst. Of the excellence and perfect completeness of this grand organiza tion, tbe press have been mot lavish in their praise wherever it has been this season- The menagerie depart, ment is probably the most choice feature of this elegant show, except ing only the circus. So great is the display affordeded' for an apprecia tive public instruction that no less than twelve massive centre poles are required to exhibit it properly. The new and original idei of a double circus performance is not only felicitous and happy, but strikes the beholder as a decided innovation npon the old order of things . A double ring with a dual company performing two acts in as insny rings at one time, is a certainly new era iu the sawdust business. We look fur a big turnout of our good peop'.e . GUGGENHEIMER & 0. Have determined that their custonieis shall reaiize the benefit of these bar gains, and have marked such a small margin of profit on their Stock they can confidently promise to sell Dry (ioodt, shoe, Hats, Carpeting Motions, Fancy Giod and 1 rimming Cheaper than any House In (he State. They deem it unnecessary and im fos$iblc to give a list of Prices of the Stock. Unnecessary because If you can buy the sume goods at less prices from any other house you can return the pur chases made from their's. Impossible, because in the present "uncertain times" the prices of some goods are varying every day.
