Certain of o ir friends in tlie Clinch Valley have requested tli.it v-? present our views touching' the .t'ly K. Jl. enterprise, and rre quite willing that tliej shall Lij'.v definitely whatwc think eon ccniitip; this and other schemes, all 1' which agree in lha ultimate and f j'.o jnrpos3 to wound, in order ;hat their projectors may capture, tit A. M. & O. road. It is !i well known fact that the two roads "which connect at Irietol, were designed hy the Legislatures of a. fc Tenn., to be parts of a j throirih lino connecting the Sea b vird ut Norfolk, with tlie con verging roads at Chattanooga. It 's equal.' well known that the two States acted simultaneous! v in the y c instruction, and that aid cxtendeJ ' v each State to t he construction, o:its link, would have been with held, if the construction of the oth f r h:iJ not been pledged and as s ired. In short that the line from Chattanooga to Lynchburg, -was a j nut work secured by the two grates to carry out the joint pur po3'. named, no one can deny. Under the old system of detached link.-, "hese two roads were worked iii hannonv, the owners of neither h iving designs upon the other. l.":ider the new system of consoli (; tod lincf, now rendered ncccs-a-rv by its prevalence elsewhere, the r.sulidation of those two nadtf, h.- been regarded as a forgone i-.iiclusion, and the separate and ;-.5filo ownership ot the v a. cc i ;nn. eystein.i, uas icu 10 a system f demonstrations against the int.rg- rv and verv existence of the Vir- ! : ':ia line, which has caused lliat :i;o to pause for its self protection. it for hostile flank movements, 1 e A. H. t O. Co., vould have .veil iiJOH3jlv t Cumberland .n., Th.il avenue bnving betn ! blockaded, there could be to- it bu- one source ot supply ; towir, the oldjone throngli Tenn. from Chattat nooga to Bristol. It has been demt onsir-ited that loial business v ill not eustaui a road, and that through business is essential to cheap local ralcB. Of course then any govern ment which has for ita object, tlie drainage and diversion to other channels of this onlj eource of sup ply to the A. 3d. & O. road, towit the Tenn. i ond, involves and threat ens the verv existence of -the Va. m line. Nay more. Tlie stress of any such movement involves tlie very prosperity of the entire Val ley bisected by onr Va. line Neither this road nor the people living contiguous to :t, can sit idly down and permit either Pennsylva nia or Baltimore to tap it at Jilor ristown, or at Russelville, and by the purchase of that line to tnrn all of its business into North Caroli na, or the clinch Valley. So far as we are concerned the authors of Euch . movements might as wcl tear up our rails and burn our de pots and I n idges. The history of our joint legislation is a standing contract between the people of Va. and Tenn., that they would etrikc hands at Bristol ir. a common eff rt, to carry over this twin line the great trade of the South and West. Under no oilier pledge or purpose ccnld either one of these roads have Leen built. Neither can exist with out the other, and neither can af ford to see the other closed to it for ever. When our friends in the Clinch Valley, ask of us in this Valley, that we allow the Valley R. R. to pass ns at Moccasin Gap on its way to Iiusselville for the capture of the means whereby our road ex-sts and can now alcue exis, they ask more than we can concede, and v.e will do them the justice to say we be lieve it is more than they are aware of asking. Very much mistaken are they, if they suppose the A. M. & (). Railroad would be so illiberal as to deprive them of a road for the sake ot thiir local trade. If that were all, it would cost less for us to lose it, than to have these saints upon tne integrity ot our line to meet. If the Clinch Valley will call to its aid any power whie can build for it a road tl at wil seek its own outlet to the west without taking ours from us, it wil have no difficulty in finding friend in this one t cooperate with them Do they wish to go through Pound Gap ? Then they can have their charter! All of this furor, about "M: hone," in the Clinch Valley, would be very unreasonable if it were not very uninformed. The vonth w ho complained that his biothcr Bil bawled ever' time he smote him on the skull with a hammer, deserved the chastisement, which in the ab sence of any deflinitc information we presume was administered to him. But the old story will illus trate the demand of Baltimore that Mahone shall stand still while that city aims to cut bis throat. These are our views as to the T..l? r -1 i nr aiiey jiauroa-u scheme. c re gard it as monstrous in its de mands, and it is als-j dishonest, be cause it docs not mtan the brild ing of a foot of road in the Clincl Valley, but only the betrayal of those people, after they shall have served Mr. Garrett, and have in jured themselves and us. If the V. Railroad means honest busi ness, let it turn its face from out storehouse and then iro ahead. . That portion" ot East Tennessee, which the Morristown Gazette rails "petty ink-elingcrs" and whom it eays arc purchased by free passes, and all because they dc-. nonce the Morristown btiit against the E. It., for half a million, by a pimp who claims he is injured because the pauses at the stations' are not" timed by procla mation, is noT charged with hav ing incurred a heavy penalty by smuggling through the mails inside his last issue, the advertisement of a cancer charlatan. If this be true the Gazette's opposition to dead hcadism is a qualified one. The I'residcnt has about Eeltled the Arkansas trouble. The Lrsris lature met and recognized Baxter and tho Executive proclamation was at once issued, warning the Lirooks party and all ether dis turbers, to disperse and go to work in ten cays, or Federal thunder will awake tkcm from tli3 pleasant little diversion. Some presume the matter has been ended, and that the Louisiana plan no longer passes current at Washington or in the Mississippi Valley. A wkitee in t!io Knoxville Chroxxcle, calls Sam Ivins "the old man of tlie Post." lie may be the tUl man of the post, but lie is a Into man of the period. The effort to snake Jake Thorn burg cut of his well won seat in Congress from the Knoxville Dis trict, is, aa the little folks would say, the Ilonk-iest movement that has been hatched in East Tennessee. If the Democrats can't recapture itr Thomburg is entitled to it by divine right, and he will get it too ! Large Land Trade in Tazewell. . Mr. Isaac E. McDonald of "Wv oniing Co., "V. Mr. Morton also on the 15th inst., organized a Grange at Holston Spring. Scott County, Va ; with b men and 10 ladies, called ' .Morton (Jranjre." in honor of the above named gentleman, by whose energy and Influence it was organized. It is needless to add that the Patrons of Husbandry do not tam per or interfere with any person's religious opinions or belief; but on the contrary religion is encouraged and re spected, the order conscientiously be lieving that without its aid and moral izing influence nothing ereat or good can be accomplished. Politics are to tally ignored by the order, its aim being the elevation of the husbandman both temporal and moral, and have him to feel that his calling is an hon orable one. THOS. CURTAIN.
