The Fojndrtj find Machine Shop of Messrs. Dixon, Smith & Co., may be found on Fourth St., near the Ten nessee Depot. They make a very fine article of Cast-iron Holiow ware. Mill (jfearing, Tilt Hammers, Coal Grates f.r dwellings, a large variety of Plows, which are stocked in a manner which is not equaled at any other es tablishment within our knowledge, ai.d a large number of other articles too nuaierous to mention. The busi ness ia supei intended by Mr. Dixon originally from eastern Virginia, but more recently from the Slate of Geor gia. Mr. Smith is thj practical ma chinist and is one of the most comje tcit and skill?d workmen we ever saw. Mr. Nelms gives his attention tp the moulding department, and also to the slocking of plows. A twenty horse (tower engine is employed. No piece of work is allowed to leave the etsahlitdiment unless tested and be lieved to be of good quality. The Sash f Blind and Door Fac torif of Messrs. Mattox, Lee & Ferguson is on Ijee Street and has combined with it the Furniture Business, which is under the immediate super vision of Mr.(i. II. Mattox. who has been successfully at the business for many years, and is well known in the country. Quite a large business is done ftr distant points, and a very su perior article of Furniture is made nt prices which are low. The styles are the very newest and best. This branch of the business has been suc cessfully introduced to the public as far Fast as the New Iiiver valley and West to Morriatown. The Sash and Door department is superintended by- Mr. John Lee, re cently from Culpepper C II., Va. lie is a skilled workman and has already gotten the business u(on such ft basis that its success lias been beyond his own expectation. Sash, Doors. Frames and Flooring are-turned out with great rapidity, and in large quantities ami are shipped daily to points in S. W. Va.. and East Tennessee, urtiers are fillet! in almost an incredibly short time and the work is of excellent quality. A thirty horse power engine and about one dozen hands are em ployed. Tobacco Factory. Maj. Reynolds will soon have his large Tobacco Factory under way. He is a first class business man, ami will be a very useful member of our man ufaclurinji community. His house Is b'ixHJS and is three stories high. The Bristol Mills, are now in the hands of Mr. Waldie of the large foreign house of Geo. 11. Kwing it Co., ami has just been placed in the finest possible condition. Three nairs of Huhrs and liolters are in use. All grain is passed through the Fan and when necessary through theSmut ter, ami the Flour is strictly up to brand. " The " White Rose " is about perfection itself. All packages a vi de livered, and the business conducted on a cash basis. A forty horse power Turbine wheel is used. The Hardware Business is eidueted by Mr. S II. Ferguson, formerly of Portsmouth, Va., and who is thoroughly educated to the bu siness. His stock is very complete, well assorted and sold at prices which we regard as low. Jeicelrtj. Mr. Duriot has a stock of Wat-.-hes, and Fine Jewelry which is not equal ed between Richmond and Nashville. He is a repairer of Watches, (Mocks, &c. He lias had twenty years expe rience. iTeiccler. Mr. A. Picken, late of the city of London, has hat! a long experience as a workman, and keeps on band a com plete and excellent stock of tlie fines! Watches, Clocks and Jewelry of all kinds, to be had in any market. Guns, 1'istols, ,Vc. Mr. S.O Fisher, formerly of Lynch burg, has a fine stock of Guns. Pistols. Sporting Tackle, Canes, &c. He is a practical gun and lock smith. Merchant Tailor Mr. W. (i. St ration keeps on ham! the only lot of tine cloths av.u cassi ineres in our town and is doing quite a good business. He has had long ex perience ami has giveu fine satisfac tion in his work. Milliner; and Mantua Making. Mrs.Tlettie Galloway is entitled tit preeminence in the department of fashion for the ladies. Her business has been enlarged and all of her stoci is carefully purchased in the eastern cities by herself in person. Hergood taste is acknowledged, and her success no longei a question. Mrs. Seales, has a ni"e stock of Mil linery Gods in the room once occu pied by the Bristol Acim. in Kane's litock. She is a lady of taste and Well worthy of the public patronage. Mrs. Frost and Mrs. Dowler, have a good stock of Millinery Goods, in liosang's Block. Caldwell's old stand, and have qualifications for and expe rience in the business. They are per fectly reliable ami worthy of a share of this business uvw so rapidly develop ing in Bristol. Clothing. Messrs. J. Bamberger & Co., have one of the prettiest establishments in town, and their stock would do credit to any city in Virginia or 'lennessee. Their prices seem to be low and they have met with a good trade. Drugs. Dr. J. d. Pepper on Main street, and Messrs. Banting & Pepper on Front street, have establishments fully equal to the demands of the country. Their stocks are both pretty and quite, com prehensive, and they are each doing a good business. Books and Stationery. Messrs King & Hill have a very nice assortment of Bttoks and Station ery, and are selling theui low. Their stttck is very well selected and fully meets the wants of the community. Their building is ou Main street, be tween 4th and 5th, Frovlsions. Commission House and Family Gro ceries. J. H. He is an exuerienced and relia ble workman Boots and Shoes. G. W. Frost & Co., have a large Shoe Factory at corner of Main and Kth streets. They are equipped w-ith improved machinery, and furnish a large amount of stock to jobbers. Their work is equal in appearance and superior in quality to Northern work. They also keep on hand a fine stock of northern shoes for gents, ladies and children. There are now employed in ! the establishment, fifteen hands, and it is in contemplation to increase the force to thirty hands. The house, is certainly superior to any siniilarenter prise which has been in the country. Pictures. J. C & V. M, Burrow at 200 Main street, have a large collection of pic tures, and do the largest busineisof Un kind in the South. They advertise in 800 papers, and publish a paper of their own. Job Printing is done at the office, of the Bristol News, in all styles, from the plainest dodger, to the most elaborately colored and shaded bills, cards, bill heads, let ter heads, circulars &c. The motto of the office, is "work done in citj' style, at city prices," ami with this inscribed upon its banner, the News has all of the Job Work it can do, but is getting ready to do more. The demand for Job Work is becoming greater, and we mean to meet it. Toys and Confections are furnished in great variety by Messrs. F. Kubnert &Son, who manu facture an excellent article of pure candy, and keep their counter supplied with a nice article of cakes. They also furnish outfits for wedding tables.
