Tim AX) VOOii-iiL COREESPONDENCE. Macon, Kan., August 25, 1891. Editor Advocate: 3. M. Scott paid a visit to Wallace county on August 19. Although the farmers were busy taking taking care of the first large crop they ever raised, there was a fair turn out and all were more than pleased. Brother Scott knows just how to show up the sub-treasury plan, and there is no longer any doubting Thomases in" Wallace county. All went home with a deter mination to stand squarely by the Ocala demands. A. C. McCarthy. Alliance Picnic. Eskridgb, Kan., August 29, 1891. Editor Advocate: To-day (Saturday) was the day set for the Elm Creek Alli ance picnio to take place, and it did. A large crowd was present Mrs. Marion Todd was our speaker. Mr. Worley led in prayer. .Hull's martial band was to furnish music, but they did not come. The day was fine and a good time was had by everyone present except a few old Republicans, who would not even enjoy themselves in heaven. Don't believe some lying Republican if he tells you the picnic was a failure, for there were about 2,000 people present Let the good work go on. R'ght will prevail. Women must vote, and don't you forget It Harry Ruble. Fairview, Kan., August 29, 1891. Editor Advocate: At the regular quarterly meeting of the First Congres sional District Alliance held at Holton, Kan., August 26, 1891, the following res olutions were adopted and ordered pub lished in The Advocate: Resolved, That the delegates to the State Alliance be hereby instructed to support the Ocala platform, including the sub-treas- uap plan. . Resolved, That the thanks of this Alii ancebe tendered President McOrath for his services rendered today; also approving his official actions. On motion two delegates were elected to represent us at the State Alliance and the other districts requested so select a a similar number of delegates. H. B. Schaeffer of Jefferson and J.' C. Stone, jr., of Leavenworth county are the brothers elected. Tonganoxle, Leaven worth county, was chosen as the next place of meeting on the fourth Wednes day in November. Henry Isely, Secretary. Wa Kkehey, Kan., August 25, 1891. Editor Advocate: After listening to S. M. Scott, assistant state lecturer, I feel impelled to urge everyone to come out and hear Brother Scott While I realize that this is a very busy time with farmers, I honestly believe that they can not afford to allow any ordinary business to prevent their attendance when they have an opportunity. In my Judgment if everyone understood the sub-treasury plan it would not require any defense. Of one thing we may rest assured, every thing that can be done by the politicians of the two old parties to cause a split In our ranks will be done, also to destroy our confidence In our leaders. ' So far as I can learn they are failing in both. Last year they were In hopes that the hot winds would so discourage us that we would loose our grip, and now they are flatter log themselves that we cant stand pros perity. The way the farmers are hump ing themselves early and late to take ad advantage of the good season and good prices it looks as though they thought everything too good to last long, and un less they can be convinced that the old parties have secured a ainch on the weather both at home and abroad, it will be yery natural to believe the old adage that "God helps those that help them selves." Knowledge la power In this con flict Let us acquire and use It Hoping that every county In the state, especially Trego, may have an Alliance paper and that the circulation of the Alliance papers maybe rapidly increased, and particu larly The Advocate, I remain as ever faithful to the cause.
