VAUGHAN. 3d MOSES AKERS For County Assessor DAVID McKELVEY. Withdrawn. We have been author ized by J. Gill Spivet, Esqr., to an nounce that he has withdrawn from the present canvass, and is no longer a can didste for election to the office of Re presentative ; The Quarterly Meeting. The M. E. Church was dedicated List Sunday. It had been entirely com pleted, save the finishing coat of paint and vanish, and presented a very neat and handsome appearance. Though it is plain,we have been no finished Churcl: in Kansas that will excel it for beauty of taste and neatness of finish. The dedication sermon was preached by Rev. Jakes Shaw to a crowded house. Never before.perhaps.has there been gathered in Ostaloosa in one buil ding, at a religious meeting, as many people as filled that house on Sunday, and better order, or more profound at tention to a sermon, we never witnessed "before. -At the close of the sermon, a collec tion was taken up for the support of the minister, after which another collection was made to defray the indebtedness on the church. This collection amounted to something over two hundred dollars Pre'ty good for hard times. I lie following gentlemen were nomi nated as candidates at the joining No ves&ber election by the Union Conven tion held at Osawkeo last Mondav. For Representatives, D. L. Lakin and T. D. Kuykcndall; for Commissioners, Woodin Foster, Moses Akers and J. B. Oliver. We have not been informed who is the nominee for County As sessor. Rev. II. H. Heogpeth, will preach in the M. E. Church next Saturdav night at seven o'clock. X&'Rev. Mr. Roocers will preach at the M. E. Church aext Sunday morn ing at 1 1 o'clock A M. h'i Abscoxdikc DEBTORS.-Joseph Coch ront, Probate Judge of Jefferson Coun ty, and his brother, William Cochrane, left this place under peculiar circum stances about ten days ago. The Jud"e, it seems, represented that he was going to Leavenworth to purchase some win ter clothing, and that his brother had gone into Southern Kansas with a load of crockery ware. It turns out that his brother had gone in the direction of Iowa, and he followed him instead of going to Leavenworth. They left a number of creditors here minus their juit dues having contracted sundry debts and borrowed money for a few lays at different places. fer The grand Lodge of Ancient, Free and Accented Masons of Kansas. r net in Atchison on the 16th inst.
