BIG ODDS AGAINST HIM
Marys Blake, a steno, and active
member of The Working Girls'
Club, listens to Jimmy Stanhope, the
dear boy, deliver a snappy little ad
dress on the subject of Patriotism.
Mary's heart palpitates, "zoomes"
does the difficult Immelman, and
throbs when she hears him speak.
She has fallen. The vamp has been
vamped. But at the same time four
very doubtful citizens take a deep
and personal dislike to Jimmy, be
cause, in his speech, he jumped on
their toes, figuratively speaking,
with spiked shoes. Jimmy voices his
opinions in accents loud and un
kind, and the more enthusiastic he
gets, the more determined Mary be
comes to vamp him into loving her,
