Robinson left Monday for his home in Dodge City. N. B. Peck, the R. I. agent, went to Topeka last Friday. He return -ed Monday. R. E. Steele returned Friday from Hutchinson, where he had been vis iting his family. Rev. Eschbach left Saturday morning to fill his appointment in Ford County. Mrs. M. A. All members are requested to be at the grounds on the south side of the square promptly at 2 o'clock. W. J. Woodard and Ed Elliott manufactured a wooden wind mill wheel for Tohn Frame last week, inese gents can manuiacture any thing made of wood and this mill is a very good sample. W. S. Berryman, cashier of the Meade State Bank, went to Elk City, Ks., Saturday on business and pleasure. This is Mr. Berryman'i first vacation since opening the bank last September. The Blair Moving Picture Co gave their entertainment at the City Hall Saturday evening. It consisted of moving and stationary scenes of the war and also some comic ones A good sized crowd was present to see them. We sent out notices last week to a number of persons to whom we had been sending sample copies of the News. We heard from a num ber and would like to hear from more. If you want the News please tell us so, for we are going to stop the sample copies next Week. If we do not hear from you we will assume that you don't desire the paper sent you. Jacob Heape was a caller at this office Tuesday and subscribed for the News. Will Wehrle has recovered from his sprained ankle sufficiently to be in school again. A. J. Byrns and son, Myron, are in Woodard county building a' house on Myron's claim. We welcome "Dutch" from Odee this week and he will continue his (or her) weekly visit. Roberts, of the Fick-Roberts Mer. Co. went east Tuesday to pur chase goods for the new store. Sam Givler was a caller at this office Tuesday, and reports every thine lovely in his part of the country. Among the latest additions to our subscription list are N; M. Ellis, Todd Brown, W. F. Boyle, M. B. Baker, and H. A. Busing.. A party was given last night by Annie Jenkins, at her home, to number of her young friends. A pleasant evening is reported. Wednesday was Valentine day and a large number of these mes sages were sent tnrougn tne post office. In fact they, commenced Monday and have continued all week. In another column is a letter from W. C. Ellis, who is in Co. G 44th U. S. V. Inf., in the Philip pines. It will be read with interest by Will's friends, as it is written in his usual humorous manner. A letter from W. S. Edwards, Beaver, Ok., says he will organize a camp of Modern Woodmen ot America there in about three weeks. The team of the Meade Camp will go down to instruct them in goat riding. Dr. Fee was called to the home of'john Riley,in Odee twp, Tuesday night to set a broken limb for Mr. Riley. He was riding after a buuch of cattle, when his horse -slipped and fell on him, breaking his leg just above the ankle. J. C. Fry returned to Meade Mon day night and is again working on the ex-county treasurer's books in Mr. Wiley's behalf, for use in the case of the State of Kansas vs. Geo. Wiley, which will come up in the district court next month. The following is a list of jurors for the March term of the District court: T. E. Chilcott, Jacob Heape, Claus Cordes, John Keith, W. E. Carr, W. J. Harbit, W. W. Ward, C. C. Callahan, John Norman, A. K. Chilcott, R. A. Brannan, A. Bonner. Mrs. R. T. Worman met with a very serious and remarkable acci dent Tuesday. She was hanging out some clothes, when a sand burr blew into her mouth, lodging in her throat: Dr. Fee was summoned and triea to remove tne oDstruction in the usual manner,, but was unable to do so, having tc perform an opera tion by cutting into the throat. At present she is improving. Tom Johnston brought to this office last week a valuable and inter esting relic, it being a copy of the pictorial edition of Brother Jonathan, a paper published in New York, dated July 4, 1045. it contains a fac simile of the original draft of the Declaration of Independence and also a full page picture of the storming of the castle of Chapultepec, Meiico, by General Scott's army Sept. 13, 1847, during the Mexican war. Subscribe for the News. . The dance "Feb. 22 will be a mask ball. Jay Ellis informed us that he thinks he is the only practical Wood man in the Meade camp.- . He says that a Woodmen has to show his ability at sawing and chopping, and consequently had to go to Woods to do it. i A. W. As promised last week, we were to have something regarding the first Meade county paper, we failed to get the necessary information this week, but , next week we will have a complete file of the paper, and will report some items of int- est. At the Churches. Rev. Robinson preached at the Baptist church Sunday morning and evening. Rev. Thompson also preached during the evening service. Miss Eva Bonham was taken into the full membership of the church at the close of the morning service. Rev. Eeyeart preached at the M. E. church morning and evening. The Epworth League was held at the M. E. church in the evening and the Christian Endeavor was held at the Baptist church at the time. same The subject for the Epworth League and C. E. next Sunday eve ning is "The sin of liquor selling; how end it?" Hab. 2:1-15. Rev. Self, of Garden City, will lecture to the Endeavor. Among Our Exchanges. The Meade Co. News is the latest visitor on our exchange table. It seems to have push behind it and is clean typographically and otherwise If it proves a "long felt want" by wrestling twelve months with starva tion as required by the Kansas law, it will win a permanent place in the homes of its patrons. One non partisan newspaper, such as the Ashland Clipper or the Coldwater Star, is worth more in actual value to any county than half a dozen half starved partisan papers, and this may be the object to be attain- by the News. -Woodard News. Mr. and Mrs. B. H. Campbell gave a dancing party in nonor or their sons, Robert and Charles, las-t Tuesday evening at their beautiful home in Riverside. The house is one of the most elegantly finished dwellings in the state, and for this oceasion it was artistically decorat ed and thoroughly lighted, and the appearance of the rooms was truly magnificent. It is the first time the entire family have been together for five years, aud the dancing party was given partly in celebration of the event. The front hall, the par lor and the library were used for dancing, and in the pretty tower room was placed a mammoth punch bowl.
