The suppression of the Irisn National League would inevitably result in the formation ot secret aocities that would lival one auother in the commission ot crimes and thus necessitate the Laud League's askiug parliament for fur ther coercive powers. The pres ent situation, sa)s Mr. Paruell, points strongly to the probability of the government being obliged to introduce u bill leasing rents to a standing lixeil by the leceui decision of the land comiuL-sious; also admitting lease holders. The govern ment's illegal method of reducing rents through General Buller's action failed ex cept w here assisted by Moonlighters or the plan of campaign. London, Dec. 22 An interchange of views between Mr. Gladstone ami his col leagues of the last Liberal cabinet on the attitude to be adopted by the Liberals at the opening of parliament, has resulted in an agreement to stipjiort the government in all its legal efforts to suppress the anti rent campaign, but to n-e the immediate enforcement of some form of Mr. Parnell's bill for the suspension of elections. The Gladstone circle is irritated over the action of Messrs. Dillon and O'Brien, antl the anti rent leaders have Jx-en warned that there i no chance that the cooperation of Mr. Gladstone will continue unless they submit to ir Paruell who is doiruUs of a common policy with ; Mr. Gladstone who is fcuspeclttt of aiming to suppress- the "plan of campaign." The Pull Mall Gazette declares that both Mr. Gladstone aud Mr. Parnell are no longer in accord with their follower who, it says. ! unless they discoTerand ammd their error, will find themselves when parliament meets without even the rump of a party. Xot wiihstanding Mr. Parnell's rii-plen-surej .Messrs. Dillon. O'Brien and Healy stiii continue their anti-rent tactics, Mr. Chamberlain has written to a corr-' pondent a letter in which he fay he still adheres to his original Irih scheme, whith has nothing in common with Mr. Glad stone's rarasure. Dean Bryne, presiding at a meeting of 5.000 Nationalists at Porneroy, county Tyrone, today denounced the povernmen:. He ssid Jh; if the coercive policy was psr istcd in he would not be responsible for tbe pc-c of fcU district. Sir Thomas Esmond, member of parlia ment, and a mirnlter of Catholic pneu spoke in a Mtiular strain. They approved j the "plan of casipaig-" and "they were readjtotake arms to rid Ireland of land lordism. The Times announces that Lord Ran dolph Churchill has resigned his seat in the cabinet, owing to disagreement with the admiralty and the war office, with reference to the increasing - expenditures of tlie country and in view cf existing financial difficulties, and also because he disapproves the home legislative measures of the cab inet. Prussia. Berlin, Dec. 22. The heavv snow storm which is still raging over a large part of Germany has caused complete sus pension of railway traffic with Saxonv, Thuringia and Bavaria, and a partial sus pension of communication with Silesia, Posen, Frankfort, Mainz, "Worms and Strasburg. The leading railroad lines are being clcjired by troops. The constant downfall of snow makes the woik very difficult. Dresden has received no mail from Leipsic or Chamanic for two days. A postal secvice by means of sleds has been arranged between Dresden aud Leipsic. A disparch from Cassel says the storm is raging without abatement over central Germany and no communication has been had with Berlin since Monday. The German students in Switzerland have been ordered to rejoin their regiments immediate. Many officers on furlough have also been ordered to return to Ger many. Turkey. Constantinople, Dec. 22. It is re ported that the porte hoped through the in fluence of Voulcovich, the Bulgarian agent in Constantinople, to bring about a change in the Bnlgarian regene. Diplo- mats heie, however, believe that ,Bulari- aus will refuse to cliamre the regency until an acceptable candidate for the Bulgarian throne lias been designated. IL of L. Complications. Chicago, Dec. 22. District Assembly 24, of the Knights of Labor, has appointed a committee ot live which is engaged in the investigation of the stock yards strike, ami it is asserted tonight the reason for the in vestigation is that District Assembly 57, (the packing house employes' assembly) has caused a secret boycot to be issued against those of the Chicag3 packers who were particularly hostile during the strike. The assemblies,24 and 2o7, embrace near ly all the kniuhts in Chicago and Cook count. District Assembly 24 and Sea man's district assembly 13G, it is said, were asked to support the 57 boycot. The members of 24G preferred a thorough in vestigation of matters in connection before asking such a step and the commit tee is now taking testimony. Among the witnesses summoned are Messrs. Harper, Gaunt and Dolan, who were expelled from local assemblies during the strike. Tliey werc charged with treason and several other offenses. Upon the result of the in vestigation depends the action to be taken in relation to the boycot by' District As semby 24. The membership which in cludes nearly all knights in Chirago except the Packing and Seaman assen.bl'. The intention of 57 is to inaugurate a general boycot airainst several of the pack ers and make it permanent. The action of Powderly in declaring the strike off and orderingthe men back at ten hour?, it is said, has led a strong local movement to have him deposed. It is claimed that a special session of the Knights of Labor General Assembly can he convened upon a call issued 5y live District assemblies from five states. Those favoring the move say that four other assemblies besides No. 57 can be secured beyond a doubt and that such a call will be made. In this connec tion it is asserted that T. P. Barry and Mr. Carlton, the two members of the general I'M'ciuive committee who were sent to Chi cago to settle the strike, left the city with uuliieudly feelings towards Powccrly, and it is said that a crusade has been inaugu rated against him. In case a special ses sion of the assembly 3 called before the next regular convention it will consist of the same delegates who met at Richmond. It is this fact', say the auti-Powderly fac tion, that gives the movement & pause. Powderly on Prohibition. New York, Dec. 22. General Work man Powderly has written a letter to the secretary of the Good Templar lodge in Brooklyn in which he sas: "I-am pleased to know that my humble efforts in behalf of the sacred cause of temperance meets with your approval. I have never said anything upon the subject that I did not mean, und the sentiments I have expressed fail to convey the full depths of what I do feel upon this subject. I regard the use of strong drink by men andwomen as the greatest curse that can befall them. To the use of liquor can be ascribed nine-tenths of the ills that befall our working people, and while our work ing people are always held up as those most likely to be injured by the use of rum, it is only because through poverty their faults are more easily discovered than those of the other side who drink fully as much and are as much the slaves of drink as the working people, the only difference being in the quality of the drinks. One has to content himself with cent beer, the other with 5 cent champagne; tlie t licet is the same, nud the use of both should be abolished if we hope to have strong men and women for the future.
