On proper presentation of the pues
tion, the following rule3 were made:
1. No subordinate grange can sub
scribe stock to a joint company and
afterwards assess its members for the
purpose of paying the same; but can
subscribe to the extent of its funds on
hand in the treasury.
". There is no distinction between
a dimit card and a withdr.iwl card,
and a party holding a dimit is amend
able to any subordinate grange in
whose jurisdiction is found.
3. Past masters and their wives who
arc matrons may be tried in the sub
ordinate to which they belong, or in
whose jurisdiction found.
4. Applications for (limits should bo
voted on by the grange, and a majority
vote gives consent under the constitu
tion.
.I. Trading cards must be surren
dered on application of dimit.
G. Due can only be remitted to
those who are unable to pay.

cided,
1. That each cla-s should not ex
ceed 1,000 members in its association.
2. That sec. 2 art. C, of by-law of

of the state grange at its next regular

ment in regard to his plan for check
ing prairie tires throughout the state,
and the matter was refcrcd to the wor
thy Master Hudson, to have properly
prchcutcd to the grange by circular.
The subject of relief for the desti
tute wai taken up and most fully dis
ciis'ed and considered.
IJy vote Ilro. Hudson was also au
thorized to forwaid communications
to the national grange on the subject
of relief, and aNo to send out circu
lar?, to each grange in the state asking
them to report their condition and to
contribute to the extent of their
ability.
Ilolh circulars were carefully pic
pared, and the agents and deputies of
each county urged to gie the malt clinch-personal
attention for the next
sixiy days.
Uro. Downs wn-. requested to cor
respond with the railroads of the state
and to ascei tain if donated goods could
not be sent free.
Uros. Hudson and Dtiinbauld were
by vole authorized to confer with the
Fort Scott manufacturing company on
the manufacturer of the Werner har
vester and other farm implements alio

ferent kinds of farm machinery.

pend largely upon the action and ex
ample o( individual members, both in
the Grange and before the public.

will be judged thereby.

vocations the sons of men follow. Wc
tec good to come of this tendency on
the part of young men of intelligence,
culture and wealth towards agricul
ture. This class have long been con
tent to be absorbed iu some one of the
so-called learned profeMons, or have
engaged in banking, insuraurc, rail
roading, politics or commerce. Money
making and (social position have been
the goals for which they hao strug
gled. The duties of their chosen lo
cation and the exertions of society
have been onerous and not alwajs
compensating. The uncertainties of
commerce, the crowding of the pro
fessions, the competition in and hol
lowncs of the systems of insurance
and banking, the uncertainties of val
ues of railway stocks, the natural de
moralization of all these classes of
business, bacd as they arc upon a
talsc .system of ethic-, practically if
not leally; the consequent falscnet-,
hollowness, vapidity and disintegra
tion of t-ociety and the. depression of
social standards, have tended to dis
gust and alienate V moie thoughtful
and intelligent of the young men in
our social ami commercial centres, and
to reconcile them to any life and loca
tion that would give them freedom
