A. L. Plil'Ai, Proprietor. POTRERO AVENUE. HIDES AND HORNS. Holbrook Argus: II. J. Uanu-r, ! the well known stockman, arrived : here Thursday with c7 head of! Hereford hulls from his ranch at! Wattrous, N. M. He disposed of; 22 head to local stockmen, and the balance were driven out to his; Canon Creek ranch, by Dick Wil- liams, Ormund Padduck and J. V. ! Taylor. i International-American: Jess Fisher left this morning for Texas to look after cattle for the San i Bernardino market. He stated that reports from Texas have it that the cattle are in splendid con dition. If he finds that the stock is a? good as reported he will buy a big herd and bring them to his ranch for consumption in this city. Stockman: Judge A. J. Howell, the substantial cattleman of Tonto, was in Globe last week. The Belt says the Judge is in high spirits over the improved range condi tions. He says the grass is better in Tonto basin now than at any time t-ince he located there. The country all around his place pre sents the appearance of a luxuriant meadow. Stockman: The Turkey Track Cattle Co., ha& incorporated under the laws of Arizona with a capital stock of one million dollars, the incorporators being Y C. Greene, B. A. Packard and E. J. Gates. The first annual meeting of the stockholders of the new company, will be held Oct. 15th at the office of the company at Naco at 3 o'clock p. in. water liolc- are full. Nmora cat tle never were in (fetter condition than they are at thi time. Owing to the ijuarantine on Sonora cattle, there is no immediate market for his stock and the herds are rapidly increasing as a consequence. The cattlemen feel keenly the effects of the quarantine and now that they have a good year it is very dis couraging not to be able to get to the best market with their stock. Stockman: Capt. W. II. MeKit trick, whose extensive cattle ran ges are in the Sulphur Spring valley round about Willcox, visited his interests there, returning Fri day of last week to his home in Bakersfield, stopping enroute at Tucson for a few days. The herd of some 140 bulls that had been on feed in the Buckeye country have been shipped back to his range near Willcox. Capt. McKittrick is president of the Arizona Cattle Growers' Association and is giving his attention to the coming meeting to be held in this city early in February, on which occasion a large number of Arizona's leading cattlemen will assemble in Phoenix. Willcox Range News: C. P. Dunn, who with J. H. T. Cosper is engaged in the cattle business in the Blue country, was a pleasant caller Thursday. Mr. Dunn re ports no loss of cattle worth men tioning on his range as a result of the drouth. He is in hopes that the market conditions will soon change for the better and believes there is yet a good future ahead. Stockman: Ten carloads of cat tle from Wattrous, N. M., and six carloads from Wagon Mound, same territory, were received at Ash Fork early this week by J. A. Pitts. Our reports does not state, but it is presumed that they are cattle brought there to re-stock the range, now that a series of good years are expected by the cattle men of the northern tier of coun ties. Stockman: A goodly number of cattle are being shipped out of the southern counties of Arizona to pasture and feed elsewhere, all of which will be the better for the ranges, as recuperation will be the more rapid and substantial. While it is true that the range is not nearly so heavily .stocked now as in former days, it is recognized that the lighter the range is stocked the more prompt it will be to re spond to the present favorable weather conditions with increased benefit later on. Another favorable point is that the breeding stock left on the range will be the better for the thinning-out process, be cause it insures a larger percentage of young stock, and this is special ly important on ranges where im proved stock is now being intro duced for breeding purposes.
