Saturday, l'V ni,iry 2 '., (, Washington' Birthday in the Nogale Public School. Tiivsilay afternoon our city pub lic schools held appropriate exer cises in the several departments in commemoration of the birth of Washington. The high school had an especially attractive program of readings, recitations and music. The program was started with a violin duet by Masters Duane; Bird and Jack O'Keefe, with piano! accompaniment by Allen Tracy Bird, Jr. The next was "President Washington's Receptions" by Dora Hannah. This brought out the peculiar manner of receiving in the early history of our country, and especially the exactness with which every detail was required to be had by the President. These recep tions were of bi-weekly occur rence, and were always held Tuesday afternoon. The "Life of Washington," was told in poetry and prose, in readings and recita tions by the following pupils: Mabel Marleau, G rover Marstellar, Pearl Marleau, Robert Saxon, Emma Ashley, Tracy Bird, George Raphael, Alice Cirlos, Margaret Gittins, Mercedes Lopez and Gracie Gildea. In addition to appropriate songs by the school, Masters Duane Bird and Jack O'Keefe rendered a vio lin solo each. This being the first appearance in public for these young violinists, they were the re cipients of hearty encores. Their duet and solos were also rendered inseveral other rooms. A. II.
