Chihuahua men H'cm to be tention as ever to the placing of monuments to mark the bound aries of their properties. The law is very explicit on the subject and for some time there has been posted at the Chihuahua mining agency a warning to owners of claims that this neglect is prejudi cial to their rights. Such neglect is the source of no end of trouble and often times of litigation. If a person wants to denounce a piece of ground there is nothing there to put him on notice. Mexican Herald: The Monterey Iron and Steel Foundry is reported to be doing a very prosperous and still expanding business, all of its departments running full time, out orders arriving continuously. Structural iron and steel material are being sent to all parts of the country on urgent orders and on precise specifications. The steel rails made at the foundry are under practical test on various busy roads. If the demand for its products continues to increase at the present rate, the'eompany will soon have to enlarge its capacity. Mexican Herald: Within a few i months it is possible dredgers will be placed at work on the Viga! canal for the purpose of increasing its depths sufficiently to permit the operation of light tugs, which will be employed in pulling the barges with which the trallic of the waterway is now conducted. Ap plication has been made to the de partment of fomento by an Amer ican company for a concession au thorizing the dredging of the canal and giving it the exclusive right of navigation with power boats on '' the canal for a certain term of years, in addition a subsidy ot $60,C00 is requested. Chihuahua Enterprise: There is good opportunity for the profitable employment of limited capital and unlimited care and attention in the Mexican state of Veracruz, which is the home of ihi.- delight ful accessory to the culinary de partment of every well regulated home. , In .the very shadow of beautiful Jalapa is the little village of Papantla, in the immediate vicinity of which is grown the finest vanilla produced 111 the world. But there are other sec tions of Veracruz where the bean prospers and where it is asserted one may realize an independent inco.ne for an indefinite period from five acres of ground properly cultivated. Mexican Herald: For the pur pose of establishing a colony of Russian Mennonites, J. Todd Mc Clammy, of Chihuahua, and S. D. and R. H. Smith of Alexandria, La., have secured 10,000 acres of land about thirty miles southeast of Nuevas Casas G ramies, Chihua hua. The tract is a beautiful, level piece of land with splendid soil and practically every foot of it can be irrigated from an immense reservoir which can be made at a natural site, just above the land, at a small expense. This reservoir can be made to cover fully 3,000 acres of ground with water at least fifteen feet in depth. With the land goes a water right in the Santa Maria river, and its waters, borders on this state, will -oon be doing a large amount of business in through this city. The cause of this is the Yaqui Indian troubles to the westward of Sahuaripa dis trict and between it and the So nora railroad. The latest and most important prospective change in this direction is that of the Cieneguita Copper Co., of Ciene guita, one of the largest companies in that district. President and Gen eral Manager Geo. Beebe, of that company, passed through here thi week on his return from the mines to the States. He shipped consi derable freight back to the mines from Mirlaca. Cieneguita is about midway between Minaca and the Sonora railroad. Mr. Beebe says that the extension of the Chihua hua and Pacific road to Temosia chic will give the balance in favor of shipping from this side and if the wagon road is built to Ocampo, as now intended, it will be still more in favor of Chihuahua.
