t r v ri n ri i .;u Li CP ii ii iLi-1 u Saturday, January J 3, j t MINING NOTES. ! Globe llegiter: Globe at this tiin'" present. no inviting field for those who are pessimistically in clined. There is nothing here for their minds to feed upon. If they look to the real estate market they find nothing but prosperity. If they look to that of commerce no thing greets them but the greatest of business rushes. And, if they look to the mining field still greater is their disappointment, for there they find nothing upon which small ideas may feast. This last proposition is well proven by the great mining deals that have taken place here within the last f e w d ay 3 . Pro m i ne n t a m 0 n g t h ese is the deal made by parties believ ed to be representatives of the Calumet and Hecla company, own ers at present of great mines near Bisbee and a great smelter at Douglas, in the purchase of tbe Bird group of mines which lies ad joining the Old Dominion mines northeast of town, and which is owned by Mr. and Mrs. W. House, and Messrs Shoap and Stevens, and the mines composing it have been sufficiently developed to establish beyond any question that there are within the boundaries of the group great deposits of ore bearing cop per and gold and silver. saflord uuaruian: it was an- nounced recently in the Guardian j that F. G. Downey and T. T. Swift j has gone to Stein's Pass. Since j that time Mr. Swift has returned) but would give out nothing for j ublicaiion. Upon investigation! at Bowie, however, it was learned that the two gentlemen had gone lu survey some coal ground that .Ir. Pownev had located sometime before. The location is between! Stein's Pass and the Chiricahuaj , mountains. One vein is known toj be at least fifteen feet in width j where the croppings appear on the surface, and the coal is pronoun ced to be genuine and of a high class. As soon as the survey had been completed, it is said that Mr. Downey sold a half interest to tome eastern capitalist, and then went to California. As soon as he returns it is believed that work will be started on the claims, with a strong company behind it. Florence Blade: Manager J. II. McCabe, of the Florence Smelting, Milling and Mining Company, re turned Saturday from San Fran cisco, where he has been consult ing with the capitalists who are backing his smelting project. He informs the Blade that he has been successful in financing the compa ny and now has ample capital to successfully carry his plans to completion. The company is in the market for the ores of this sec tion and is offering to pay cash for same. Mr. McCabe says he is now prepared to take measurements of ore bodies in stopes and make esti mates on same. The sampler is ready for operation and he has a competent metallurgist and che mist in charge to make tests of ail character of ores. It had a good record for product iveness before it passed into his possession. This is a property that should command the prompt attention of capitalists. Prescott Courier: Wm. Theis ing is in from his . Turkey creek mines and mill with another bar of gold which weighs 55 ounces and is the result of two weeks' run of his two steam stamps. The mill is kept running steadily.
