Dage nett, government outing agent in charge of the employment of the Indians of the Southwest, made a trip to Laguoa dam yesterday, and while there made an arrangement for the employment of a consider able number of Indians by J..G. White & Co. He will provide j mostly Pimas and Papagos. There are at the present time about 125 of these red men employed on the work, and they have proven very satisfactory. Gazette: The city 'seems to be bent upon getting the street gravel ing work finished up as rapidly as possible judging from the number of teams and men now at, work. About 20 men and six teams were at work this morning between Washington and Adams on First avenue removing the surface of the street and hauling it away to be supplanted by gravel. The north half of the block was graveled yes terday and the south half will be finished up this afternoon. Republican: At the present time there is a great deal of activity in the line of planting sugar beets on the south side. For several days planting has been in progress and is, making good headway. Yes terday a seeder was started on the Schenck ranch;-. Waterhouse and Casner have been running one the best part of the week; two have teen in. operation on the big patch at Kyrene and another one is working a few miles south of town. Altogether there are six at work and as each is supposed under good conditions and barring accidents, to put in ten acres a day, it can be seen at a glance that a good acre age is going in every day. Under the direction of the sugar compa ny's agent, CoU J. E. Price, the ground to be planted about Tempe has been put in splendid shape, much of it has been plowed . twice and if Tempe does not grow a good crop of sugar beets this year, it will be no fault or through no neglect on the part of the fanners who have signed contracts. Republican: Several Phoeni cians who went down to Maricopa night before last to see a lot of horses which are being brought through the country by express by Fletcher & Dunham, of the Oak land, Ills., breeding farm, were disappointed. On the arrival of the party at Maricopa it was learn ed that the horses had been delay ed and that they would not get in until last night. Some of the members of the party went down again last night. There are twelve of the horses, six of them French eoac.hers. One of the latter has been bought by a syndicate of horse fancitrs, living in the valley, who will be permitted to make a choice of the lot. They have al ready agreed to pay $3,000 for vdut ever animal they may take. G. M. BERNSTEIN Broker and Commission Merchant. CANANEA, S0N0RA, MEXICO. P.O. BOX 133.
