It is advan tageously situated for operation, and it lies between the historic Mowry mine on the north, and the great Washington Camp and Du quesne deposits on the south. The former has in active operation u new and complete reduction plant, with all modern improvements, in cluding a concentration mill and large smelting furnace. The plant is emploj-ed in producing lead and silver bullion from ores in the mine developed to a depth of 450 feet. At Washington camp the Pride of the West Mining Com pany have an extensive reduction plant, combining electric concen tration, water concentration, and a smelting furnace. Their ores are principally copper, combined with lead, zinc and silver. The Du quesne Company have an immense development of copper ores, and are making provision for a great reduction plant in the near future. Surrounded by enterprises so colos sal, the Four Metals Company will be the keystone in a wonderful arch of industrial development. Westward from the north end of the Gross groupj several miles, are seventeen claims of the PH02NIX-HILLSIDE GROUP, also the properties of the Four Metals Company. These claims are cut bv several fissure veins, that have been developed consider ably, exposing large bodies of high grade orel, rich in gold and silver. The Hilltop claim is a fissure in a decomposed porphyry, with a pay streak two feet in width carrying lead and iron carbonates, rich in gold and silver. The Hillside claim has a similar vein, with a pay streak two to three feet wide. Average assays of these ores go $38 gold, 16 oz. silver and 41r( lead. The two properties named have about 000 feet of tunneling. Be sides the veins developed the en tire hill is mineralized, the red, friable porphyritic rock panning out gold at all points. It might prove one day a profitable hy draulicking proposition, by pump ing water eight miles from the an Rafael, or upper Santa Cruz river. The Phu-nix claim has a' shaft' about sixty feet in depth develop ing a fine crevice two feet wide, tilled with gold bearing quartz, with talc and iron, in a granite formation. The average assay val ue is $78 gold and 19 oz. silver per ton. On Time claim has two shafts, both making good showings of pay ore, carbonates of lead and iron pyrites. In one the sur face ores assayed $8 gold per ton, while at the bottom of- the shaft the returns were $274 per ton. Other claims in this work have good shafts, showing excellent ores. In the vicinity, and upon the ground of the claims there is an abundance of wood for all mining :itid fuel purposes, and an inex haustible supply of water, ensur ing the most important supplies at minal cost. The Four Metals Company is strong in its personnel, including some of the best known business men in Phoenix and the East. The president is Mr. Lloyd B.
