sleek, range conditions could not
be better than at the present time.
Already this year's rains have
been bountilul and in some sec
tions the rainfall has already ap
proached well toward the average.
If present conditions continue dur
ing the summer there will be more
than the average rainfall, insur
ing ample feed for the grazing
stock and plenty of water to last
well along to the winter rains. All
indications at present, point to a
better year for the cattle industry
than was last year, which was ex
ceptionally good. If prices hold
and it is generally anticipated that
they will, the stockmen have he
fore them a period of unexampled
prosperity,
of hogs this fall will he the largest
on record at all the markets.
Twice as many hogs could be
handled here as are coming, with
out hurting prices at all.
Sheep and lambs are 5 to JO
higher this week, run light, 23,1)00
for the week. Last week 215.300
came in, and receipts were 26,800
same week last year. Utah started

tion this week, and the stuff sold
good. Top lambs today brought
$7.25. wethers worth $3.75, ewes
$3.00 to $3.50. Dealers look for a
break in lambs later this month,
and expect sheep to sell at low
prices all fall. Feeding lambs
have been purchased here this
week at $4.50 to $4.75, feeding
wethers $3.25 to $3 35, breeding
and stock ewes $2.50 to $3 65.

Live Stock Market.
Kansas City, August 11,1011.-
Cattle received here this week will
amount to 40,300 head, including
about 6000 calves, received last
week 57,400, same week last year
54,200. The feature the week ha
been the spectacle of good to choice
cattle going up, and medium to
common ones going the other way,
the spread widening 40 to GO cents
this week. Light weight steers in
the quarantine division received

me niggest cut, as nuvers claim
they have been costing as much in
the coolers as the best cattle, be
cause of low killing percentages on
the light stuff. The best native
fed steers reached a top of $7.00
this wee!, which is 35 cents higher
than any time previously this year,
prime yearlings brought $7.40, and
native grass steers, half fed last
winter, brought $6.85, which is a
quarter better than they have done
before. Anything under the $6 00
line had to submit to some prun
ing, from that figure down to $5.00
values were cut 10 25 cents, and
steers selling under $5.00 sold 25
to 50 lower. Obviously a big dele
gation formerly eligible in the
$5 00 or better class, now have to
sell under that figure. Dealers
expect this turn in the market to
stop a lot of cattle for a few
week-, and do not look for a very
heavy run, considering the season,
for the first of next week. Of
course, reduced supplies will bring
au upturn. Ualves are holding
steady, best $7.00, grass cows worth
$3.25 to $4,50, bulls $3.00 to $4.50,
quarantine steers $3.75 to $5.50, a
few fed cattle this week in quaran
tine division up to $6.05. Blockers
and feeders are 50 cents higher this
week, top feeders of the week sell
ing yesterday at $5.00. Country
buyers base their calculation on
the way, good to choice cattle are
selling.
Hog receipts are down to famine
figures, 21,700 for the week, as
compared with 29,400 last week,
and 22,200 same week last year.
The market has successfully resist
ed strong efforts made to depress it,
sales today at the week's best
figures, $7X5 top, bulk $7.40 to
$7.55, though the close was weak,
and last' sales lower. The extreme
ly slim run now does not quite
accord with the expectation of
those dealers who say the supply
