After u couple of preliminary meet ings of the citizens interested in de veloping the mining resources of Polk county, a general call was made for a meeting at the Iv P. hall which took place last Thursday night. The hall was well filled with citizens and bus iness men. The evening was taken up with talks made by interested par ties who claimed to understand the situation. After the meeting was over about $100 was subscribed by those present to carry out a scheme to develop one of the thirty-two mining claims owned by \V. I. Royer, II. D. (Ireen, H. J. RadclifFe* and J, F. Todd seven miles from Mena on the Church mountains, which these gentlemen would donate to the company. As soon as possible the promoters of the plan desire to raise $1,000 which they think sufficient to drive a tunnel far enough into oue of the mountains to ascertain whether or not there is min eral in paying quantities in Volk cou n ty.
