Dowell, who came here a few weeks ago to practice dentistry, having purchased the office of Dr. J. W. Teas, left yester day afternoon for his former home at Danville. High School Notes. Rev. Wm. H. Richardson con ducted chapel exercises and made a fine talk last Monday morning, which was much enjoyed by all. Up to the present there have been but three or four tardies in the entire school and all the rooms which have had none, are looking forward for a half holiday Friday. The Lanier society is now the best in its history. There were four initiated at the last meeting. Mrs. Sam Heiligers and Mrs. Jo Fraueuthal visited the society last Friday afternoon. We are al ways glad to have visitors. Rev. J. B. Stevenson, who visits us about once a week, conducted chapel exercises for us Thursday. John McCollum, who has been out several weeks on account of illness, has returned to school. The Lanier society will hold its regular weekly meeting next P'ri day morning instead of in the af ternoon on account of the half hol iday. Correspondent. W. 0. W. Officers Elected. At the regular meeting of the W. O. W. lodge in this city Mon day night the following officers were elected for the ensuing year: J. W. Holt, C. C.; R. B. McCul loch, A. L.; W. N. Jones, banker; F. M. Morgan, clerk; W. R. Hairs ton, escort; W. P. Salter, watch man; I. N. P'ields, sentry; F. E. Allen, manager; Drs. G. S. Brown, I. N. McCollum and H. E. Cure ton, camp physicians. The fol lowing delegates were named to at tend the Head Camp which meets at Ft. Smith next May: W. T. Wilson, R. B. McCulloch and I. N. Fields. Special Agent Here. W. J. Apple, special agent of the United States department of agriculture, is spending the day in the city. Mr. Apple is on his re turn from a trip up the Fort Smith road, and says that he has prac tically succeeded in inducing the business men of four counties, Con way, Logan, Pope and Yell, to employ a government demonstra tion farm expert for service in those counties. Faulkner county alone has already made arrangements to secure a similar expert for next year. Here to Hunt. Attorney General Kirby, Supt. J. A. Piteoek of the penitentiary, and W. H. Martin of Little Rock came up this morning and will go hunting with A. J. Witt, Jr. BRLMONT. Health reasonably good at present. These warm cloudy spells are causing the people to fear losing their meat. W. S. Weymire moved out of our rnidstjlast week to his new home. Brother Blevins preached his farewell sermon at the church Sunday evening and was received with appreciation, l'he people here wish Bro. Blevins much success in his future work. Grandma Sowell is visiting in our midst at this writing. Miss Zora Wilson has returned from a week’s visit at Conway. Two of Mrs. Tucker’s grand children are out to stay a few days with her. Yes, Ballard, come on with your items. Your assistance and your pres ence will he much appreciated in our literary work. Grandma Parish is visiting at Mr. Cook’s at present. O. \V. lodge met Saturday night. Johnie Vaden and family have moved into Walter Richard’s house and will work land for him. Mr. and Mrs. Langford went to Mt. Vernon trading last Friday. Mr. Editor, I wish to correct a little mistake. The Christmas cantata will be had on the evening of December 23 and everybody come for we are going to have everything so arranged that every one present will never forget the pleas time they had at Pleasant Valley. Prof. Woods and wife of Mt. Vernon visited J. S. Munus and family Sunday. One of the jolliest entertainments of the season was had at S. P. Crafton’s last Saturday night and there was be tween 50 and 100 young people present. Misses Mary Hawkins and Leona Flippen and James Baker visited home folks Saturday and Sunday. Alvin Walton and sister, Myrtle, will leave today for Little Rock. Leo Crafton of Conway was out Satur day and Sunday visiting his father and family. Mr. Johnson and wife visited Mrs. Johnsons' sister at Damascus last week, who has been very ill, but is some bet ter now. Dec. 15. BERYL. Winter seems to be rather late this time. . Very little farm work has been (lone as yet in this section. The mysterious Mysner’s show was pulled off at our school house Wednes day night to the delight of the children who were present. W. L. Easter and A. C. Wilkerson, Sr., came out Saturday night from Con way to visit their families. Rev. W. T. Blessing preached his farewell sermon at Mt. Olive Sunday and left yesterday for Jonesboro to at tend the White River conference. Mrs. Julia Terrell is said to be con valescing after a long spell of fever. After an absence of a month of oat sowing, Lester Hartley returned home last week. . W. M. Burke and wife of New Liberty attended church at Mt. Olive Sunday. December 15. SALTILLO. Prof. Ed Langley, who is teaching school at Oak Bowery, visited home folks Saturday and Sunday. J. W. Graham went to Conway Satur day. Everybody is getting ready for a big time Christmas. Jess Johnson carried cotton to Con way Saturday. Mr. Cupit and family of Chadwick are moving to Saltillo. Uncle Jesse Henderson, while nailing rafters together on a house, fell and was bruised up considerably. N. G. Smith left Sunday for Okla moma. J. C. Cupit has ginned 315 bales. Saltillo Camp No. 482, W. O. W. will meet the fourth Saturday night in De cember for the purpose of electing of ficers. Jesse Johnson will be initiated. Every member is requested to be pres ent. Dec. 15. DAMASCUS. The weather has been fine for a few days passed for scrapping up scattered cotton. “Curtis Wilson and wife and Miss Rosa Price visited at Springfield Sunday. Dr. A. I. Hutto spent a few days at Wooster last week on business. Harf Holland and wife of six miles northeast of here are rejoicing over the arrival of a fine boy which arrived there last Monday night. The surveyor has been here for sever al days establishing some lines between some dissatisfied parties. The entertainment given by the stu dents of the Damascus high school last Santa Claus! is due to come soon City Bakery will be his headquarters for everything good in the eating line. Goodies too numerous to mention. So come and see for yourself. Glad to show you. The best and freshest that can be had to suit your taste, etc., Caspar at the City Bakery Friday night was a grand success and and gave perfect satisfaction to all who attended. The box supper given at the school house Saturday night was also a success and resulted in the sale of 27 boxes at 25 cents each; the money raised is for the purpose of buying a school bell. There is to be Christmas tree at the school house Cbr’stuias eve in favor of the Sunday school at this place and there will be a suitable program ar ranged for the occasion. Herbert and A. M. Martin were in our town Sunday evening. Dec. 15. PLEASANT VALLEY—NORTH. D. M. Jones and wife went to Conway trading Saturday. The infant child of Green Beene has been very sick, but is reported bet ter at ttiis writing. Mon Nixon and family and Mrs. Har vey have returned from Oklahoma and will make their home here. R. L. Bell has moved to Joe Nixon’s place, where he will make a crop the coming year. A. A. Milam and family were the guests of J. H. Hiett and wife at Gold Creek Saturday and Sunday. W. I). Ethridge has returned home from Quitman, where he has been at tending school, for a few days vacation. A play party was given at J. J. Hick man’s Friday night ami was well en joyed by the young people. VV. C. Nixon has moved on his farm which he purchased a few days ago. B. P'. Burnett had a woven wire fence built around his yard last week. C. E. Martin and E. M. Hankins will start for Little Rock with a load ol geese today. J. L. Pearson has purchased So acre; of land lying on the Cailron ridge from George Downing of Conway. Mr. Pear son expects to build on the land soon. December 15. WOOSTER. Dr. A. I. Hutto of Damascus was liert last Thursday on business. John Cantrell of Damascus was here Monday. J. M. Halloway carried cotton to Con way Monday. W. P. Shaw is cutting a fine lot ol shingles and says he is now ready to fill all orders for shingles. Dick Smallwood stuck an ax in hi? foot last Thursday while cutting wood, inflicting a severe wound. Arthur Peace went to Little Rock Saturday. Pierce Blair, who is teaching at the Blair school house, spent Sunday with homefolks here. Mr. and Mrs. H. Robertson went tc Linder Sunday. S. J. King was on the sick list Iasi week. Our schools here, at Stony Point, Shady Grove, Hawkins school house and Pleasant Valley are progressing nicely. T. H. Ward of Greenbrier was here Saturday. J. M. Holloway has just had his res idence repainted, which adds much to its appearance. Dec. 15. ENOLA. S. E. Lasley and I. W. Roberts made a home seekers trip to Oklahoma last week and returned on last Sunday. I. R. Reynolds made a business trip to I’angburn and Heber recently. H. D. Heffington and J. R. Matthews, who moved to Oklahoma last fall, re turned last Thursday, thoroughly satis fied with old Arkansas. Dr. Sanderlin of Quitman is in town operating dentistry. A double chime of wedding bells rang Sunday, when John Stivers was married to Miss Clem Lasley and Albert John ston, to Mis9 Gertrude Spradlin; Rev. J. O. Cantrell officiating. S. W. Williams made a trip to Con way yesterday in search for Santa Claus. Dock Young will have a public sale of his personal effects on Friday and leaves for Oklahoma. F. E. Henry and family of near Mt. Vernon, visited S. W. Williams, Sun day. Happened in 1910: the south bound train killed a Jersey cow belonging to Jess Setzler, just north of town on the 15th. ______ Dec. ,5 . GREENBRIER. Dr. I. N. McCollum of Conway was here Monday. Clarence Henderson went to Little Rock Monday. Dr. McMahan of Kendall was here Saturday. Several from here attended the funer al of J. W. Kirby at Spring Hill Sunday. He was buried by the W. O. W. of this place, of which he was a member. J. W. Wofford of this place killed two hogs last Tuesday, 17 months and five days old. One weighed 420 pounds, the other 415 pounds. He got 21 '/2 gal lons of lard from them. They were of the Poland-China stock. Everybody remember that Santa Claus will be here Thursday night, De cember 24 at about 7 o'clock. The boat is heavily loaded with Christmas toys and presents. Supt. C. H. Cheek of the Sunday school is corresponding with him and expects a grand time when the boat arrives. Greenbrier Lodge No. 290, F. and A. M. elected officers last Saturday for the ensuing year: W. A.
