IVI is cellany. Written for tl* Chronicle. WOMAIT. Woman is all a fleeting show, For man’s delusion given ; As certain ones have cause to know, Who mend her, —for a living. Come and inspect this work of art. Dissect the charming creature; From hand to foot, from head to heart, Close scan each well-made I aturc. The borrowed tresses, on her head— Her teeth, of patent latest — The lovely tints of white ami red— proclaim the‘skillful artist. The swelling form of Nature's fount Is well supplied by padding. While cushions full her hips surmount — A graceful form—of wadding ! Tight corsets shape her tender waist, As cotton does her stocking ; While hoops and skirts hide all the rest, That will not bear exposing. To sec her stripped of all her charms. Revealed as Nature left her; You'd scarcely find, in your alarm, Y'our charmer in the spectre. There are, a few who dress with care Their persons, fair and graceful ; And heighten all '.heir beauties rare, With garments neat and tasteful. But they are few and far between. \ 1 wish the)’ were more plenty, That there example might be seen And felt, in town and country. “W.” Wauzeka, Wis., October 20th, 1805. Prom Austrilia. Through the kindness of a friend we arc furnished with a copy of the Melbourne Post , from which we gather the following items, which will doubtless be of interest to some of our readers. The Post says : “The fearful waste of life by mining ac cidents continues unabated, and the gov ernment do not seem to apprehend the ne cessity for vigorous legislative interferanec. The notorious bushwhacker Morgan has been shot by a company of citizens in the act of capturing him. Trade is still depressed. Provisions are very high, and the wages of labor have not risen in porporti on. In the rural and ndning districts the long drought is caus ing considerable distress, and the prospects for tho poorer classes for the winter is not very encouraging. Still the gqpat revival of mining prosperity, which is evidently impending, must inevitably bring with it great benefit;' Although the want of was ter has been a great drawback to mining operations, the receipts still continue very large. During 18(id, the quantity of Vic torian gold exported was 1,545,449 oz. against 1,626,956 oz for 1805. An important gold-field has been dis covered on the western coast of the Mid dle Island, within the province of Canter bury. A great rush from the various towns* and settlements has taken place.” Tin: Toma n ano S'i. Croix Railroad.— The Jackson County Banner says a con tract has been entered into between Mr. Baldwin and Messrs. Fisk and Steel, of New York, by which the building and completion of the entire line of railroad from Toman to Lake St. Croix, within two years from the first day of December next, is assured. The building of the road will commence at Hudson. Some changes have been made in the Board of Directors, which now stands as follows, with Pliny Fisk, Esq., as President. Jilack River Falls—ML T. Tire Girard Estate and Coli.eue. —The income of the Girard estate, in Philadel phia, is now about $-200,000 a year, and still increasing. On the first of January, 18(14, there were 445 pupils in the institu tion, and SCO on the first of January, 18fi5, when 37 vacancies existed. During 18(54 twenty were bound b} r indenture of ap prenticeship; seven on trial, waiting agree ment between the employers and pupils to become their apprentices ; nine died; three had their indentures cancelled, and thirty were expelled. In February last there were 143 applicants for the benefits of the institution, although twice during the past four years every applicant was admitted into College. Freaks of an Insane Man.—A few days since, an insane man in Tarrytown, N. Y. was about to shoot his housekeeper, winn she calmly said, “Mr. Lindenherger, you are too good a man to kill me,” when he turned the muzzle of the pistol to his own bead and blew out his shattcrad brains. Galena Gazette says that a little girl two years old, daughter of Mr. Alexander llardt, on Franklin street, fell into a kettle of hot soap last Thursday, and was so badly scalded that she died last Saturday. Shu was a great sufferer, and the fact of her coining to her death in this dreadful manner is severely afflicting to her friends. £f?“The Stevens Point Zuuibertnan says a child of Geo. ONE POTTLE CURES ONE BOTTLE CUBES ONE BOTTLE CURES ONE BOTTLE CURES In almost every case. It is impossible to enjoy the bloom of health and vivacity of spirits, unless the Menses are regular as to the time, the quantity, and quality. When they arc obstructed, nature makes her efforts to obtain for it some other outlet, and unless these efforts of nature aro as isted, the patient usually experiences Despon dency, Nervousness, and finaIIy,CONSUMPTION as sumes its sway, and prematurely terminates a miser able life. Do not suffer from these irregularities when an in vestment of one dollar in Lyon’s Periodical Drops will regulate and restore nativ e to its healthy course; and DO NOT BE IMPOSED UPON ! DO NOT RE IMPOSED UPON ! by those who have other preparations, which they de sire f o palm offnpon the strength of the popnlai ity of my Drops. Rnt when the Druggist you apply to has not got them, either make him buy them for you, or else enclose one Dollar to the nearest general whole sale agent, who will return yon a bottle by return Ex press.
