It will surprise ;i great many persons in Manitowoc when they read tin* state ment that the improvements made the past year aggregate upwards of a mil lion dollars. A careful estimate has been made hy The Pilot and the figures to prove this fact are presented in this week's issue. In preparing the tabulated statement the new elevator of the North Grain company was included for the reason that that plant was not fullycompleted until the present year. The Burger Bros, contract work, exnlnsive of the Goodrich Transportation company's work, though it does not exactly come under the head of improvements, it was work actually done in the city. Even if the sum total did not quite represent the result m-vertlm less is remarkable considering that many building projects contemplated were abandoned on account of the high price of material. No city in the state the present year, outside of Milwaukee, can make a- fine a showing. The statement has also been prepared earlier than is customary, the building season being still far from closing and it is likely a considerable number of res ideuces will be erected before winter sets in. * The figures are given below.
