swine breeder- regarding canker have
been received at Modi* in. The ex net
cause (,t the trouble cannot tit present
lie stated the manner in which it
spreads and it' persistence in the hog
pen indicates that it may be of germ or
igin. This d)s< use invariably apjiears
in young pigs fr- m the time of birth to
a few weeks ■ Id and if not attended to
prompt!;- either stunts their growth
permane’itly or they waste away and
die.
• The symptoms shown are as follows:
Sore month, swelling of the jaws with
white sometimes light brown scabs,
which later show deep cracks. The
scabs and ■ racks are found on the snout
extending over the head, and even to
the body and limbs; in some cases an
nicer will form at the end of the snout
and eat awa> part o f 'be nose, in other
canes the ears maj lie affected and drop
off There js dullness, los of power it)
the hind limbs a tendency to walk on
the fetlocks, disinclination to move the
pigs usually standing with their backs
humped up. They either refuse to
suckle entirely or else do bo in a half
hearted manner. If made to walk and
move will sqin alas if in pain.

results. The sow's udder should also be
washed with one of these solution two
or three times.
