The ‘governor proved what we all know that the small shippers are paying an exorbitent rate while the big shippers through rebates reap the benefit. But the governor created the impression as though the freight bill had been killed by the senate this was not the case. The hill was fought over in the assembly for weeks and finally killed there. Then the governor hut a few days before ad journment introduced the maximum freight rate bill which provided that no rates could he raised higher than they were at that date. This bill was defeated by the senate by an over whelming vote, the senators stating that a matter of such importance could not be thoroughly considered in two days, that being all the time they had for adjournment. The governor is a good orator and bis delivery hero was good and of the Calumet Baking Powder A wonderful powder of raro merit and unrivaled strength. sort that makes him friends of people who often do not understand a word of what he has said. “Same rights to all and special prive ledges to none” has always been a demo cratic cry and if we will ever have a freight bill it will come from the demo cratic ranks and not from the corpora tion members of the republican party.
