Fairbank’s Scales.—lt is a significant fact, which the public will appreciate, that whenever new scales are put upon the market, as large numbers have been from time to time during the last thirty years, it seems to be the first and chief aim of the makers to show that they are the same as Fairbanks,’ or like them, or are improvements npon them, or have ta ken premiums over them, thus recognizing t! ■ latter as the standard fur excellence, andshow ingthe etrong hold they have upon the public confidence. It is a Will known fact that while mc-j.t. of this* l scab s have, r.ft< r moie or lets trial, passed mainly out of use, Fair banks’ have gone steadily forward, increasing in j nblic favor year after year, and are now much more generally used than al! others, not | only in thia country, but wherever American ' commerce Las been carried. This could not be so if they were not all that is claimed for them in respect to their durability, as w< 11 as convenience and accuracy.— Chicago Tribune. Patriotic R< solutions. —At the m eting of the St. Croix Valley Baptist Association, in this city last week, the following resolu tions were passed: Whereas. Laving siirreptioua y seized Federal forts, ships, munitions and mo ney, Laving moreover contemptuously abne gated the Declaration of Independence by treating it as a tissue, of rliltei ing generrl ’- ties, having wickedb attacked the flag of the Union, when peacefully floating over our own forts and ships, and having likewise sacrili giously trampled in the dust the Constitution, the citadel of our hones and li?>erties, as well as the gift of our beloved Washington and his compeers to these States: And. Mr. Marsh will probably go with the Prescott Company into active service ; he served du ring the Mexican war, and will be an import ant aid to the Prescott boys.— Hastings Jnde pendant. The Prescott Guards. —This company now numbers nearly, one hundred, and before leaving will doubtless be filled up to the max imum number. They are actively engaged in drilling, and Capt. Dill Iffis received word that they will be ordered into campat Madi son, the last of this week or the first nf neit. The county, of course, is proud to have them go, but many familiar faces will be mowed af ter their departure. Last fall, on the receipt of the Prize Ban ner by this county, we wrote— Peace bath l.er victories, and the land Which honors thus her sons of toil, Shall never want a willing hand To guard or till her fruitful soil. The call to arms has come Conner than was thought but the response has been prompt and cheerful. We doubt whether there is an other agricultural locality in the whole North which has sent out more soldiers in propor tion to the number of the population, than this. Honor to the soldier boys.
