The Fate of Slavery. Secretary Seward, in a recent speech nt Auburn—the first he has made since the war beg in, thus speaks of the cfßd of the war on slavery: The abetiArs of the rebellion are troubled for fenr we shall not leave th? rebels, when ih y i avc si«b::iitteJ.en<»ngh of slavery and staves. They want to know wii»t we propose a’lout iti.nt. My answer i’, that if they hnd submitted to Abraham Lincoln in the beginning they would have retained th»i whole. They have lost by resistance, on an average, ten thousand slaves a month. Each month of prolong.sl resistance increases the loss, an I they nra verging upon the the time when t>n*nmission, coming too | Into, will k-ave neither slavery nor slaves in the hnd. This question of slavery is their business not none. So long as they propose no surrender, they are entitled to ask no terms. Wimt has happened to slavery thus far, has been the legitimate i fruit of their own crimes; but it was fruit ordained not by man, cut by God. Without seeking to divine his was, I lh’'nk thnt the future will be like u >to the past. The iusui ruction will perish un der military power, necessarily and therefore lawfully exercised, and slavery will perish with it. The Racine Journal says “the demo cratic party in its purity, is the best po littcal party in the woild.” Thnt is no • doubt true, but having lost it’ purity, it is now a very vile and corrupt orgnriza tion.
