A Widow of Experience.
Many years ago, at the funeral of
one of the prominent men of Oxford,
Mass., the minister forgot to mention
in his prayer the widow, who was the
second wife of the deceased. His
brother, noticing the fact, sent his lit
tle daughter, after the service, to re
mind the aged clergyman of his omis
sion. The minister apologized to the

A Depressing Object.
The bridegroom is generally the
most depressing feature of the mod
ern wedding. If he is well off he is
either bald, with a decided tendency
to adipose tissue, or else of a pale
sandy type, with equally pale eyes and

Meaning of “Lullaby.”
According to some, “lullaby” is a
corruption of “Lilia abi!” (Lilith
avaunt) words inscribed upon four
coins and placed by superstitious

' wives. Lilith was, according to the
Talmudists, the name of a wife of
Adam before Eve.

Traveling in India.
Notwithstanding the great distances
covered the railways of India carry no
sleeping cars. The seats can be con
verted into berths, but travelers have
to provide their own bedding. Nor are
there any dining cars.
