Simpson, wiU recommend to the Legislature an an nual appropriation of 97,500 to each of the three schools in the State far salaries of teachers, ordinary expenses, &e. This is good news, indeed. The new is already needed, the school be ing now too large for the room it has. Great credit is due Mr. Barnes for bis per sistent and earnest endeavors in behalf of this school. a SABBATU SCHOOL MATTXBS.—A very increase in the interest felt in mat- ters relating to the sustaining of Sabbath Schools has manifested itself during the year. Not only is the attendance mnoh greater than before, bat grown-up people are becoming hearttty interested in for warding the good work. The regular Sabbath School concerts draw crowds. At the monthly concert of the Methodist school, on Sabbath evening of lost week, there was scarcely standing room. Tko singing and extremes by the children gave evident satisfaction to those present. On lost Sabbath evening the first conoert of the Congregational school woo also weU at tended. Iaterostiag and instructive ad dresses were made by HOT. Tompkins and 8aperisnendent Moore. Bisn ix LCHUBB.—One day this week a farmer brought to one of our buyers a hide, which he wished to sell. The gen tleman being busy, requested a ycung man standing by to "take it down stairs and weigh it." His friend did this with alac rity, and reported 78 pounds of hide, which was paid for at 6 cents per pound. Soon after the dealer discovered that a board, 18} pounds, had been weighed in, and paid for at the regular 8} cento per pound, thus demonstrating (though not satisfactorily) the reason for the hide's being so heavy. This is the highest price we have heard of as being paid for lumber. —We would acknowledge an Invitation to attend the inauguration of W.
