Dam, who has been at Brain ard during most of the winter, was at home for a few days this week. RAILROAD PARTY. —On Tuesday, a special train arrived from St. Paul, with a party of officers of the St. Paul and Pacific Railroal Company. It comprised: R. Delano, General Superintendent, C. A. F. Morris, Chief Engineer, Wm. Payte, Assistant Engineer, J. W. Doran, Gen. Freight Agent, C. N. Parker, Master Mechanic, ——Booker, Supply Purohaaing Agent, and one or two others. They came to obtain teams and outfit for parties, to survey and finally locate the Branchtine from St. Cloud to Brain erd. In about a week, parties will survey and locate the line from St. Cloud to Otter Tail. Col. McClellan goes with Engineer Payte. Mr. P. L. Gregory wan engaged yet terday in purchasing teams, fte., for the parties.. Clarke, a recently returned missionary, gave an interesting lecture on the Bulga rian missions. He described the condition and habits of the people, the success of the missions, &o, and exhibited many ar ticles which he had brought with him from Turkey. There' is nothing in the hardware line which they have not on hand. Purchasers ate always safe in going to Powells'. —A few day since, an old lady, whose rame we were unable to learn, living on Jacob's Prairie, saw the pigs at some wheat in the yard. She started for the grantors, aad, in her haste, fell from the door-step, her head striking in the mud and her left elbow on a block. A fracture of the elbow was the unfortunate result. —As will be seen by bis advertisement, Mr. J. G. Huber has purchased the stock of groceries and provisions opened a few weeks age at Heopner*s stand, and has ad ded largely thereto. Well, if doctors can prescribe by having telegraphed to them the condition of the pulse, we don't know but St. Cloud law yers can straighten crooked legal problems in Litohfield and Meeker county. We had a nick-tie social at the Tinkham House the other night The manner in which the neck-tie affinities affected the tempers of some who were yoked for the supper table with those who were not affin ities in sympathy or station, showed that some pairs were merely coupled, not ma ted. Over thirty dollars were raised to add to the fund for the organ for the Pros bytenari church in Litchfield. The fund now amounts to about sixty dollars. VOYAQEOB. A COUNTY FAIR. EDITOR JOURNAL.—I am glad to see that Taa JouRgAL is urging upon the people or your county the importance of holding an Agricultural Fair next fall. And if the good people of St. Cloud will put the ball in motion, I am sure that it can be made a and benefit to all the 'farmers and manufacturers. All agree that we have a splendid country for stock raising, and we should make it a very profitable branch of industry. I am sorry 10 see so little inter est taken in the matter of thorough-bred animals. Our stock as general thing, is of a very inferior quality, and it is high lime, when butter brims from 25 to 40.ceuts per pound an 1 cheese 20 cents, the year round, that farmers waked up to their cwn interests. Thi question is often asked What can I raise or produce on my farm to the he»t advantage, support my family, anl cave a little money over and above, against a time of need But it is not so easily answered, from the want of knowledge and experience in this new country. Let the farmers of Stearns, Sherburne, Morrison and Benton counties, discuss this sutject through THR JOURNAL (I am sure every one takee a copy who looks to bis own inter est.) and next September have a fair in city. .NOV* E.
