The market this morning opened steady, with a good demand but light of ferings. The first new bale of cotton raised this season in Shelby county, Tea nessee, by A, C. Brewer, was auctioned off to-day by Trezevant & Co. at 26c. The second new bale, which was received by Messrs. Hill & Fontaine, sold at 28c. Another new bale, received by Messrs, Ely, Harvey & Richardson, was auc tioned off by Mr. Frankland and brought 35c. ' Mr. J. H. Black purchased the first new bale of Tennessee cotton and Capt. Al Tuther, of the Star Union Line, shipped it East on the passenger line free of charge. The Virginia and Ten nessee Air -Line, via Memphis and Charleston railroad, volunteered to send the new bales through to any point in the United States and to Liverpool free of charge. Captain Bob Gibson, of the Louisville and Nash viile railroad, also tendered t transport free of charge the first new bale of cotton to New York and Bosten free of charge. New York spots weie reported quiet and unchanged; futures steady. Liverpool was quoted as Btrong; uplands, 8J38d; Orleans, 8'38J. New Orleans was re ported hrm; middiiBg, ibic. lne mar ket here ruled quiet but firm, with hold ers asking full prices and the market bare of medium and bright cottons. The unsurpassed passenger steamer John Kyle, Captain Abe Hutchinson in command, will leave the wharf boat this evening for New Orleans and the bends. Mr. Brown, a worthy and clever gentle man, haa charge of the office. The Mary Boyd will be put in com plete repair and leave on Saturday for White river.
