We, the people of llogersvillc, need, and badly need, ten or ntieen cheap cottages to be erected right away. Who will build them i Ihey can be rented as soon as completed. Our village is looking up if times are bard. A writer in a Hadical paper from Nashville, we notice, takes occasion toeay the Republican members of the House are intellectually superior to the Democrats. Well, that may be so, but if it is may the Lord have mercy on the Democrats I Mr. N. T. Beal's new Jersey calves 6tood the trip from Pennsyl vania to Ilotrersville on the tram first rate, arrived hers in good health and are thriving fiuely. We doubt the policy of per mitting a foreign corporation to buj' up and own such immense quantities of real estate in this "country. The lands of the. United States ought to belong to the citizens of the Uniteu States. and apply the entire . amount thui raised to educational purposes it would make school teaching a good business in Tennessee, and would soon furnish educational facilities for all the children of the State. Under the four years teaching of Gov. Porter a majority of the people of Tennessee bad about come to the conclusion that the bonded debt of the State was an honest debt one that we really owned, and the only reason why we did not pay it off, "dollar for dollar," and pay it quick, was, on account of our "impecuni arity." We had, further, about made up our mind to the fact, that the bond-holdsrs in proposing to take 60 cents, and some of them 50 cents in the dollar, were a lot cf magnanimous gentlemen who de served to be specially mentioned ia the Sabbath morning prayers of all the orthodox ministers in the State. But now Gov. Marks has gone and knocked all that in the head. We really don't owe anything, except the Capitol bonds and the Hermit age bonds. Our new Governor has written one message and has put the State clean, smack out of debt. Well, we have thought all along there was something wrong in this matter, and now we are worse tan gled up than we ever were before. Of one thing, however, we are cer tain, when we become the owner of a million of dollars we will not in vest it in bonds of any kind. SPECIAL, NOTICE. We shall wait and watch the developments of the near future with curiosity. Somebody is going to suffer. There seems to be a disposition on the part of the present Legisla ture to make liquor tellers and liquor drinkers pay a larger amount of rev enue into the State treasury than they have ever done heretofore. Several bills have been introduced looking to this end. I his ts, per- haps, the proper step to take on the liquor question at the present time, and as tbe amount of the school fund s not sufficient to keep open the publip eghools for five months in CD year, it would, we think, be a good idea to apply all the money raised from a tax on liquor to tbe education of the children of the S'ate.
