Oa tbe "finality or tbe Bank Question" the Banner hath a wee dhrap of an article, which shows what the General Afsvmbly that now generally assembles twice a day ia oar midsi has done toward securing for tbe people of Tennessee a sound, conservative no, not conservative, but a sound, reliable and well regulated Currency a currency that will neither dangerously expand when dampened by tbe sweet dew of commercial prosperity, nor ruinously con tract in the tropical summer solstice ot finan cial adversity. Who would hare beliered in fact, "Who will believe? not I, for in deceiving; Lies the dear charm of life'a delightful dresm ; I cannot spare tbe luxury of believing, Thai all tbii.gi beautiful are what they seem." who would have believed fifteen months ago, that on tbe Ibird day of March, Anno Domini , Eighteen Hundred and Sixty, there would be of all tbe banks in Tenneraee a solitary vestige left to shame ns with the re collection of bills that would not go, and cashiets that did T The September Resolu tions, and tbe paltform ot the February fol lowing that pure, ewevtcbild of Democratic compromise and expediency, conceived in fear and agony, and like tbe Tbane of Fife, "from its mother's womb untimely ripped" where are they ? "Gone glimmeriug through the dream of things that were, a school boy's tale, tbe wonder of an hour!" Where is that cry of "down with the banks? give ns gold, oi give ns death with a decided preference for the gold 1" It is bushed for ever, and not even among the rocks and val leys of tbe mountains, where a cart-load of bank bills would n't purchase a coon-ekin, is beard the faintest mur-ner of its echo! And to-day we not only Lave the Union and Planters' Banks endowed with a new lease of life, and tbe privilege ol establishing six branches each, but we have, miralnU dictu I four bran new "swindling machines," in tbe philosophy of whose charters the idea ot "Repealibiliiy" and Individual Liability-' is not even dreampt ol T O. Democracy, De mocracy! hadst thou thought to spread thy self in the days of Imperial Barxcm, too easily couldet tbou have read tby title clear to the crown wbicb Ucxbco placed upon bin brow I But let us touch lightly upon this tender new-born faiih io tbe usefulness and neces sity or a paper currency; or rather, let ob touch it not at all, lest we mar Ihe vigor of it infancy and imperil tbe strength and beauty of its manhood, for well hath it been said, "The dew-drop on tbe baby-plant. May warp the giant oak foiever." The Union learns from a telegraphic dis patch from Washington, under date of the 29th ulL, that no charges are made against Mr. Nkwmax, the late Speaker of tbe Senate, by the Department. Tbis we heartily n joice to bear. As the presiding officer of the Sen ate, Mr. Newman won tbe confidence aud esteem of every member of the Legislature; and in the private walks of life, be enjoyed the ret-pect of all ; and all, without distinc tion of creed or code, will share tbe pleasure this announcement has dill used among hi personal Iriends. The Crrr Pkkss is not tbe exponent of the Patriot' political sentiments; it professes to have nothing to do with the legitimate political business of tbe concern ; ' it has any quantity of politics of its own to ke-p it buy; and hence, it does n't meddle with the "regular business;" but when the Union asks "Will the Patriot in any event support the Chicago nominee?" we feel thai the question ought to be answered several ' times; and at leant once by ua. According ly, in the words of the Buucum Flagtaff,"vn answer in tbe affirmative, no!" We woulo support that nominee in tome events, but wt couldn't think of it in any event; for the" Chicago Convention, for ought we know, tuav uuminate Fmed Doigla8, or tbe administra tor of old John Brown; in either or whicb event we kbould feel a little reluctant to support tbe nominee. The Union states that at a meeting of the American members of botb houses of the Louisiana Legislature, held at Baton Rouge on the 16th ult., h was "aVeaoW. That the Secretary of tbis meet ing be iuMrticled to inform tbe Democratic members of tbe LegUlaiure, now in caucui-. in Ihe Capitol, that we pledge ours; lve to unite wiib tbem in sustaining tbe nominee of tbe Chatleetun Convention." Thin resolution, which passed by a vote of 17 to 7, was offered by Senator Solomon. Senator Soi.ost.N U probably a descendant ot the distinguished scholar and architect of, that name who formerly rerided at Jerusa lem since deceased. It so, he is the most melaucboly and striking example of the de generacy and decay of great families that we have ever seen. The Union copies an extract from the Washington correspondence of tbe New Voik Inlune, which says of Mr. Bell: "lie has a weakness as a caudidate his wif owns niggers." Some of the Democratic would-be candidates have a' still greater weakness as men their wives have no hus bands. The G a Kite has an article on Water Gas, which is being manufactured in Philadelphia. Tbis gas, now illuminating tbe City ot Broth erly Love, is called water gas, we presume, in contradistinction to the brandy-gas which sometimes serves to make the darkness ol stupidity vUibb; at Washington. Tbe Air d. vot. s the greater part of its editorial pace to the sjieech of tbe Hun. John Bfcix before Ihe late Opposition Stale Con vention, and to an article on the IlWYfan i Question, with the !'i'a lttr in r.nr r,,- I luer fellow-citizen, then CoL L. N. Bonaparte, now Empeior Napvlkon. Save Voir Gas. A few days since we called the attention of tbe public to a new gas-burner bich is now being put up in thia city by Mr. Green, and called tbe 'imperial Ecouomiser, or Double Reaction chamber Burner." We have since tested this burner. botb in our counting-room and composing- room, and are satisfied that it is superior to any other now in use. Tbe light is clear aod brilliant, and the amount of gaa saved Is fully equal to 25 per cent. We would call tb attention of wholesale merchants and others whoss gas bill are heavy, to this burner. Our churches also would rave by adopting it. Mr. Green may be found at tbe Commercial Hotel, and will be pleased to explain the advantages of his burner to all who will call upon him. BEAtrrim. Paintinu. We called at the rooms of Mr. J. F. Waoj.br a few days sioce to look at the many beautiful landscape and other painting which adorn their walla. Mr. Wagnkb Is a true artist, as the creations of his pencil abundantly prove. They are not mere daubs, with boars in the waves and dolphins ia the wood; bat are the works of one wo loves bis art, and loving it p4oa ateiy, baa studied it thoroahly. She leaves behind her a general wish, that she will return to the Gaiety next set son. . ' Tbis evening the immortal "Wool" comes in for ai benefit, and we trust that all. who have enjoyed his inimitable delineation of tbe negro character in The Hidden Hand will re member him on this occasion, and turn out en avuae to witness bis "expiring effort" in the "Ledger drama" "bis last, his brigbest, and his beat," Of course -Wool" will make a speech, and it will be worth tbe price of ten tickets. And then, the bewitching Mrs. Ettik Hen- Debsom Is to play the part of Capitola!" If this isn't a sufficient attraction within itself to fill tbe boose, it requires more to fill it than one would suppose. Mr. Jacks v deserves to have a substantial benefit let us see that he has it. Blackwood's Magazine.
