Between 12 acd 1 o'clock night before last, a fire broke out in the Confectionery Store of Mr. Georok Gbkio, on Union Street, on the right of the hllej leading from Dead erick street to Church, and there beiDg consid erable wind at the time, tbe entire building, in which were three stores and an eating ftaloon, was bnrned to the second story, in spite cf tbe beet efforts of the firemen who were on tbe ground in fall lorce soon after the alarm was given. It is supposed that tbe fire origin atr-d from a candle, used by a young man, a German, in the employ of Mr. Greio. who came borne intoxicated a short time before the fire was discovered. Tbe building was a three story structure nnl was occupied by George Grkiq, confec tioner ; J. M. Flowers, Jeweler; J. M. Barnes, rcstoralor, and John Lrcs, dealer in niunic, musical instruments and toys. The losses are about as follows : . George Greio $6,000 J. M. Flowers 1,000 J. M. Barnes. 3.000 John Lcck 5,0no Owners of Buildings, 15,000 An Irih servant girl of Mr. Greio, lost all ber clothing, and $150 in money which she bad saved from her earnings. Another in the employ of Mr. Flowees lost about the same amount. The Messrs. JosiRO, restora iors adjoining Mr, Luce, was damaged to tbe amount of $150. The part or the building occupied by Mr. Greio was insured in tbe Commercial In surance Company, for $2,000. II is family occupied the upper rooms. His furniture and stock were insured for $4,0002,500 with Nash it Marr, aud $1500 iu tbe Ten ntfssee Marine and Fire Insurance Company. The part of thu building occupied by Mr. Flowkrs was injured in the Commercial In surance Company for $2,000, and that occu pied by Mr. Uaknes (owned Mr. Wisj-el) in lh-.'
