Thore has been some talk of a mock fanoral in commemoration of the great domonstration to be made at the in terment of the grand old soldier's remains at Riverside park, NeW'York city, but it is scarcely probable the project will be car ried out. It will be remembered that a dis play of this kind was made izi Donaldson ville on the day of the Garfield funeral, and it was an imposing and interesting affair. Parole whiskey at Reddington's Mechan ics' Exchange. Messrs. Victor Maurin and Louis Wild, owners of the well known propeller Clipper, have traded that craft for a trim little steam launch named the Sentinel. The swap was made with Dr. S. D. Gustine of Kennerville, who is understood to have paid an amount of "boot" satisfactory to Messrs. Maurin md Wild. The Sentinel is 40 feet long by 7 in width, has an iron hull, is fitted up with fine, brass-mounted ma. ohipery, is licensed to carry 75 pounds of steam, but rhris SWiftly with I5 to 60 pounds, is said to draw only 18 inches of water, and will carry 25 passengers comfbrtably. Af ter putting guards on the launch and effect ing other alterations and improvements, the owners propose to run her in Bayou Lafourche, making daily trips bbtween Thibodaux and Donaldsonville, carrying the mails, passengers and light freighlts. The Sentinel arrived here Friday evening and her crew at once took charge of the Clipper, with which they brettirned down the river the same evening. Dr. iGustine has an extensive practive along the river above and below Kennerville, on both banks, and finds it necessary to have a steamboat in order to roach his patients promptly. He intends to fit up the front cabip of the Clip per as a drug store and the rear cabin as a private office and consultation room, and we think he will find the boat admirably adapted to the purpose in view. The Sen tinel made a trial trip down Bayou La fourche and back this afternoon, going a mile below Paincourtville, and her new owners are delighted with the way the lit tle boat behaved. Having spent the last twelve months on Bayou Lafourche giving universal satisfac tion with our photographic work, we pro pose to do the same for residents of Don aldsonville and vicinity. McCLURE & CO., Photo. Boat "Success." E. A. DELCHAMPS, Manager. BAsE BALL.--The Vincents of New Or leaiis visited Donaldsonville last Sunday, via the Mississippi Valley railway, for ti:e purpose of crossing blat with the Lees of this town at Cleveland park. Only four innings were played, when the game was suspended by rain, the score standing at that time 3 to 3. The Vincents will return here in a few weeks to give the Lees an other trial and it is proposed to have the game in connection with a fair to be given for the benefit of the Catholic Church of Donaldsonville. The second Sunday of September is spoken of as the probable date of the game, and the Vincents will play under the name of the "Cheap Tony " nine, in compliment to their friend Mr. A. D. Vega, one of the most popular mer chants of our town. The Fortiers of Donaldsonville went to' Plaquemine yesterday and played a fine game with the Viguets pf that town. The score stood 7 to 2 in favor of the Vignets. The Fortiers went np on the forenoon train and returned during last night on the steamer Keokuk. The Viguets and Fortiers will play again at the Cleveland park, Donaldsonville, to morrow,.and on the following Sunday, the 9th inst., an interesting game will bepltyed at the same place by the Donalisonville clubs, Lees iand Fortiers, between whom there is a lively and stubborn contest prom ised for the local championship. The R. E. Lees of New Orleans passed here on this morning's train, en route home from their trip to Shreveport, where they defeated the O K's in three successive games, on Wednesday, Thursday, and Fri day. The score of the first game was 9 to 0, of the second 13 to 6 and of the third 7 to 0. The second game of the series of three being played by the Lees and Bachs of New Orleans for a purse of $1700 took place last Sunday and resulted in a tie, 3to 3. Only six innings were played when the umpire, Mr. John Ilisgen, was struck and severely in jured by a foul ball. As no other umpire could be ;greed on, the game was declared a draw and the clubs will meet again to morrow. At the Scattery place, in Assumption ptr ish, the Reginas and Prejeans started a game last Sunday, but it was stopped by rain at the close of the second inning, the score then standing 6 to 2 in favor of the Reginas. The rain soon ceased, but the Pr6jeans declined to complete the game, hence a match of five innings was played by the Fortier Juniors of Donaldsonville and the Reginas, the score of which was as follows: Fortiers.................... .. 4 2 6 4 1-17 Reginas .........................0 0 6 0 6--12 Umpire-John Vives; scorer. 8. Klotz. The Charlets of Paincourtvillo and Eu rekas of Napoleonvilio played at Trinity Park the same afternoon, and we are in debted to that ever courteous young gentle man, Mr. J. Marks, Jr., for the following report of the score by innings: Charlot............4 3 4 2 0 1 0 x-14 Eurekas.......... 1 0 0 2 2 1 0 0- 6 Umpire -O. J. LeBlanc; scorer, H. Weil. The celebrated " Get up and get " candy only five cents apiece, at Maurin's Cheap Grocery Emporium. Try it. Bayou Lafourche has reached such a low stage that we understand the Red River and Coast Line steamer Jewel well not at tempt another trip to Thibodaux, but will make Donaldsonville her upper terminus, connecting with bayou flatboats at this place. The little propeller La Belle U616ne, which has been making daily trips between Thibodanx and Donaldsonville, will soon be withdrawn from the Bayou, as the water is getting too shallow for safe navigation. Still another new lot of base balls, bats, score books, belts, caps, umpire indicators, full left hand catcher's gloves, stockings, etc., etc., just received at Ingman's. Having had photographs taken by Mc Clare & Co. of the Photo. Boat " Success," we recommend them to our friends as first class artists. EDGAR AUCOIN, JONIi B.
