The imto West Virginia minors nized labor lenders, reinforced by n personal appeal from Governor Corn well, the threntended invasion of Lo? gan County to enforce unionization has been definitely called off and the dispatches Monday night reported the Kanawha coal fields quiet again and most of the miners back at work. Our neighborhing State is to be congratulated on the fact that cooler counsel prevailed and that bloodshed was not resorted to in an attempt to force the Logan County coal opera? tors to submit to unionization of their employes. Violence is not' the American method of settling such disputes and the labor leaders who gave such excellent support to Gov? ernor Cornwoll'8 well directed ef? forts to maintain law and order re? flected credit by their conduct on the cause of organized labor. The Gov? ernor has wisely set on foot an in? vestigation of the entire situation, his efforts being diccted especially to ascertain "what the clement is "that stirred Ihi- men to make the march." Bolshevistic influences undoubtedly have been at work in this country and until it is definitely proved that no such influences were behind the miners, nrbitury course many will be? lieve that the resort to violence was the result of instigation from the foreign element among the workers. Had the miners persisted in their detrmiantion to effect an armed in? vasion of the Logan County fields it seems highly probable that a dread? ful catastrophe, involving cons'der ablo loss of life, would have ensued, for the operators in that region learning of the prospective invasion, had hurried machine guns to the seal of trouble and were prepared to re? pel force with force. Thus a stale of affairs closely akin to civil war would have resulted, accentuating bitter feeling ami causing great barm all around. It is lo be hoped that a repilition of the nffltir will not occur, either in the West Virginia coal fields or any? where else. Ours is a democracy and there is no excuse for resort to force j to make the will of the majority ef- i f.'clive. We hope that the charges of oppressive ami unfair tactics on the i art of the Logan County operators will be thoroughly aired and the trim 1: bor conditions prevailing made I nown. Labor would be wrong to re? sort lo force the unionize the Logon County operations but on the oilier ''and. labor should and must have a square deal at the hands of the ope? rators. On that the public will insist. Roitnoke Times. BlAH?rTKLn. W. VA. Kail term will begin September 2. Ask for free catalog and litera? ture. CRIMSON CLOVER THE WONDERTUL SOU, IiYI FROVIKQ CHOP.
