Here is the plaintiff evea now trying; bis very hardest to prove that his wife waa as adaltettav, aad yet declaring that she Is as u s'alessaa an angel." Now what anybody think of a man who has staked everything la an effort to prove that his wife and the mo ther of his children baa been an adulteress, and ret at the very same mrment calls her "a pure and good woman? " What sort of mo ral sense can such a man have? This little Incident helps to explain the mysteries of the horrible mess Into which all these eccentric folks have got themselves. They talk a Jargon of their own. Words do not seem to convey the same Ideas to them as they do to ordinary human beings. If Tilton's habits of life have been founded on the code of morality which he now desires to spread around the earth, Is It any wonder thai this disgusting scan dal has occurred? Sartoris, secompanied by seve ral members of the foreign lega tions, paid a visit recently to the Washington gymaaslum. The Cast Iron Man asked Ssrtoris if he conld do any better 1 " Bar toris's friends arged him to put on the gloves. Sartoris then took the gloves and pretended he did not know how to put them on. The pugilist smiled and told his pupils that he would take the con ceit out of bis unknowu oppon ent. The preliminaries were soon arranged aud the contest commen ced. The Cast Iron Man rushed at bis adversary, thinking to end the contest at one blow. Ssrtoris warded off the sledge hammer blows of the pugilist, and returned a left-hander ou the Cast Iron Man's mouth, drawing the claret, and then rapidly changiug off, de livered a straight right hand blow on the Cast Iron Man's nose, and knocked him down, much to the surprise of the pugilist's friends. The af fair has created quite a sensation, and the atliletio young English man is the Hon of the day among the muscular young geutlemeu with whom he associates. In a few years' time, nnless some active measures are taken, London may expect great trouble from rats It Is a startling fact that one pair of rats, with their progeny, will I produce iu three years at least six huudred thousand rats. A doe rat will have from six to eight uests of young each year for four years together, and from twelve to twenty-three at a litter: aud the young docs will breed at three months old, and there are more females thau. males at an average of about ten to six. Brick drains are their chosea haunts; skirting boards, backs of flreplsces, under the flooring or between the rafters are tbeirspots for breediug. The Loudou sewer men state that the brick drains are the rats best friends, and that nothing but glazed pipes, with heavy sink traps, will stop the sewer rats from getting into the houses.
