Since the Introduction of the
rust proof oats, the crop of that
gram has been greatly enlarged.
Steps were takeu by Maj. NYall,
Commissioner of Aerieulture, to
obtaiu a description of Italian
wheat not liable to rust, and
adapted to the soil of our State,
and the experiment thus far has
beeu a derided success. Hot-out
ly through the Commissioner of
Agriculture, some lots of Medi-
teranean wheat have been rereir- j
ed by members of Congress, for j
distribution as seed, and we would
urge the planters to whom it has
been sent for trial, to test it vir-
tues. Before aud during the war, '
considerable quantities of wheat '
were produced iu the South, as j
well as Middle and Xoith Missis-'
aippi, but the disadvantage under !
which producers labored wa Us j
liability to nist. It ia believed !
that the Mediteranean wheat !
which has recently been distribn- j
ted fer experimental purposes is j
ftea from this defect. In this'
?vet it will prove, a gToat acqui !
aitim to our agricultural re-1
eouares. The production of wheat
here among ns will be followed hv. n ...
the erection of flouring mins so ! The Greenville Times.
HU supply the demand; and it ,
will jiroTe a valuable crop for'
shipment abroad. The demand
for wheat ia as steady, and the
sale is a reliable, as of our chief
staple, ettD. itself, while it tan'
prodttred with less cost, and
with the great desideratum, hired
labor.
