Redford took place from Centenary Mtthcdist Church at II o'clock yesterday. Suttle, one of the most hlghly respected and best citizens of this county. died Saturday night at his home, "Ridgley," in the lower part of the county, after an illness of a month and more, with a compllcation of diseases. Mr. Suttle was for many years a mem? ber of the Board of Supervisors of King George and a school trustee. At the time of his death he was superintendent of the poor.- He was a man who was trusted and hohored by all who knew him, and in his death this county has lost one of its most substantial citizens. He was a consistent and active mem? ber of Brund llill Baptist Church. Ile is survived by a .widow and six children?four daughters and two sons. Hs was lifty-six years old. Dr. S. R. McClannahan. Investigation of the Fulton Smasb-Up in Progress. invcstigations as to the cause of the coliision between tho Chesapeake and Ohio train and a car of the Richmond Passenger and Power Company, Monday night. were conducted by both companies yesterday. The real cause of the acci? dent, however, remains undetermincd and' will be tne subject of future inquiry. The railroad officiais claim that thcy wcre not at fa.ult and that the real cause was the failurc to observe proper precau tlons on the part of the street car com? pany. The officiais of the Richmond Pas? senger and Power Company. however, malntain that the gates at the Denny Street crossing. which had been xemoved. shc>uld have been replaced and that 'ii.ll necessary care and discretion on the part of its employes had bcpii observed. The colored watchman. Xieholas' Black, de clares lhat no signal save that to stop was given by him. but both Motorman Rowlctt and Conductor Snoddy. of the fatod car. maintained that they were sig nalled to come ahead. The Passenger and Power Company officiais point to tho fact that Mr. Rowlctt is one of the most care ful motormen in their employ. and is known as the* "man who has never had a wreck." Conductor Snoddy is also re? garded as a most careful conductor. Thev also claim that Conductor Snoddy alighted from tiis car and had crossed the trark. Tlie Chesapeake and Ohio cfficials. how? ever. claim that the street car men did not exercise. tbe. proper p'recaution; and. had they done so, a wreck would have bc^n impossible. La.rus was also reported as dong nicely. as was Motorman Rowlctt, who was only sllghtly injured. TO HAVE A NATATORIUM. Captain Pfczini Will Establish One Near the New Reservoir. Capfain Andrew Pizzini has purchascd property near the Reservoir and proposes to build a. natatorium and swimming pool to cost $25,000, and be modern and up-' to-date in every particular. The building will be "MO by 320 feet and the pool 200 by S0 feet. The front will consist of two massivc towers, the arch way between opening Into a Jarge recep? tion room ciliptical in form. jln the cen ter will be the pool, and around the dressing rooms, etc. Tho pool will vnry in depth from three to eight feet. and all the water will bc filtered by means of a $2,500 lilter. In the centcr of the pool thoro is to be an electric fountain. There will be arrangc ments for music and refreshments. The natatorium will be a valuable and attractive suburban feature. BOARD 0F FJSHERIES WIII Hold a Regular Meeting at Murphy's To'day. The State Board of Fisheries will meet at Murphy's to-day in regular monthiy session. Senator George B. Keezell, of Rocking? ham, and Delegate Pembroke Pettit, of Fluvanna. are here to attend the meeting. The other members are expected this morning. After disposing of such routine business as may properly come before the body, it ls expected that the old question of buy? ing a new oyster boat to take the place of the Chesapeake will come up. Capt.. John A. Curtis wants a new steel boat built by the Trigg Ship Building Com? pany, to cost about $2:1,000, and has pians for same, which he will lay before the meeting to-day. He favors selling the old boat, and says it will probably bring about $3,000. WANTS C0MMUTATI0N. Senator Bruce Pleads For Dan Kane, the Murderer. Senator R. P. Bruce, of AYise. had a long conference with Governor Tyler yesterday and urged him to com mute the death sentence of Dan. Kane, the condenmed negro wife murderer of AYise, to life imprisonment. Kane is sentenced to hang on April 39th, and Senator Bruce is very hopeful that the Governor will commute the sentence. He presented a long petition, signed by a number of prominent people in the county, who, through the paper, said they did not think it was a case for puriish ment by death, inasmuch as it did not appear that there was any premedilation on the part of Kane. The Governor heard Senator Bruce, and promised to tako the matter up shortly, when it is higlily probable that the sentence will bo commuted. EXCURS10NS T0 RICHMOND. Talley, of Buckingham, the veteran excursion manager, was in the city yesterday arranging for an excursion from Gladstone to Richmond on the day after liaster, April S, Captain Talley said he would bring to Richmond probably as big a crowd as he iias ever handled. Michie & Adams, of "Tril'oy" excursion fame, will run their annual Easter Mon? day excursion from Farmville to Rich? mond. Arrangements have been made to give the excursionists several hours in Richmond in which to see their friends and do their sfcopping. BAPTIST J0URNAL1STS. Southern Press Association Convencs Here To-Day. The Southern Baptist Press Associa-.: tion will hold its initial session this morn? ing. Some of the members reached the city last night, but the real infiux of visitors and delegates will arrive to-day. The visitors. for the most part, will be entertained by local Baptist pastors and friends. The sesslons of the association will be held in the Grace-Street Baptist Church. Denominational journalism will be the general topic for discussion, but various other business matters will come up for consideration. To-morrow night Mr" E. F. Johnson will tender to the Association a compli mentary dinner at the Jefferson. Covers will be laid for 200 guests. After dinner there will be a variety of toasts, to which distinguished speakers will respond. On Friday the Association will enjoy an excursion to Old Point and Newport News. Rev. Dr. R. H. Pitt, R. Mr. Keeler is the new manager of the famous resorts at Old Point, the Chamberlin and the Hy geia, and speaks most cncouragingly of the prospects of Old Point for the season. Mr. Keeler leaves for Fort Monroe this morning. ASSESSING LICENSE TAXES. The Finance Committee Hard at Work on Difficult Task. The Finance Committee of the Council met last night and continued the consid? eration of the license assessments of the different trades and profcssions doing business in the city. Madison AA'ard was completed last night, and the committee hope at to-night's ses? sion to get through with Monroe, Clay and Jackson AYards. The list will be posted in the Auditor's offiee, and any who deslro to be heard will be given an opportunity. The Jefferson Artesian Well. The finest artesian well ever bored in this section has just been sunk in the Jefferson Hotel property. Boring operations have been in progress for some time. AVaterlogged strata was struck a few days ago, and on yesterday a test was' made of the capacity of the new well. It was found that it flows._15 gallons per minute. The well is nearly 500 feet in depth. It is located in the Jefferson property, near the power-house.
