and to the persistency with which it
has pressed tho importance and fac
ilities of this branch of industry upon

and 28th tho Graphic has tho follow
ing to say upon the subject :
TUG LUMBER TRADB.
Thero is no reason why the lumber
und timber tvade of .Vobilo should
not exceed that of Pensacola. The
principal part of tho timber that is
shipped from Peusueola, comes from
Alabama; and tho forests of our state
are more prolific in timber than are
tho forests-of any other southern
.-late. There only needs concert of
action among timber dealers, to range
Mobile so far ahead of Pensacola in
tho timber trade that our superior
facilities for lunLet shipnteuts will
be confessed and acknowledge.
The lumber. trado is progressing,
and the square timber business is jusl
in its infancy.1 We ore ifilormed that
one party has agreed to get out 25,
000 pieces of t-quare timber rom the
Alubuma river lonsts, and deliver It
iu Mobile by" tho firf t of November.
It is probable that Navy Cove, be
low tho city will be tho depot for
square timber, shipments from this
port for Europo, : ,

render abortive the utmost precau
tious, and despite all care and fore
sight miy reduce to ashes the accu
mulated wealth of years of energy
and toil; and unless the property is
covered by insurance it is lost to the
owner forever.
But there is a precaution which
may be token which immeasurably re
duces the danger, and renders the
property comparatively safe from fire.

or boy can use it effectually after
two minutes instruction at day or
